One of the most useful things on an airhead is the screw under the twistgrip that allows you to alter the twistrgrip spring return strength. It allows you to take away the spring affect all together, if you like, which makes it possible to take your right hand off the bar without immediately slowing down. As screws go, it's useful. (OK there has to be a joke there...)

So why was that feature left behind when the oilheads came along?

Does anyone have any ideas what is available (and how good is it) as an aftermarket mod to restore this feature??

I also use a throttle rocker

Thanks, that's all really useful.

Of all the suggestions, it's down to either the rubber band or this one:

Why didn't BMW provide a throttle-stop screw like they used to?

They do it's called a Heated grip with damper and it costs £69.37
BMW part No 61.31.7.671.604.

It replaces the throttle heated grip, and has an adjusting screw at the base of the grip to dampen the throttle action.

I've had one on my 1150 GS for three months now and wouldn't be without it.

'cos you may well total your engine and/or bike if you fall off with the throttle jammed open + friction throttles are just nasty to use IMO.

BMW provide a 'basic' cruise control in the form of the fast idle lever which in its first stage just opens the throttle butterflys to raise the idle. Clicking it on while on the move allows you to adjust your R.H. glove, adjust suspension (RT), scratch balls with right hand etc on the move without the decelaration of a fully shut throttle. Drops down to a speed of about 40ish MPH.
