Small hole in the collecter box of my R100GSPD and blowing...is Holts Gun Gum any good for sealing it...it's on the top so not visible?

If the rest of it is fine I would suggest something a bit more permanent, a small weld maybe. Collector boxes on Airheads are so much better than Y pieces and are well worth keeping in service :rob

...the rest of it is pretty good considering its age, and I replaced the Y piece with it 3 years ago (secondhand) - just don't want to go through the hassle of removing it for a small weld, but have not used Gun Gum before.

Im curious nick why are they better reason being I had a hole in my collector plus it did not look to clever so I butchered it to save the headers ,probably not been off since 1987 .Now fitted with a Y piece .Bikes fireing up and sounding a little fruitier but not really ran it yet .:beerjug:

Gun gum will work but it gets shaken loose quite regularly. I used this method untill the holes were a little larger. Then I started riveting small plates untill even they wouldn't do

I then cleaned it and welded it up

Most Y pieces are in fact more like T pieces when you look at them with one down pipe joining the other at almost right angles. Not good for smooth gas flow. They may sound 'better' or 'fruitier' but it seems that this is not translated into any more power or torque and also leads to difficulty in balancing the carbs well.

BMW would surely have opted for the easier, cheaper to make Y piece rather than the collector box if the performance were anything like comparable.

I am afraid if you want a lasting repair , its got to come off .
A competant Engineering shop will be able to do a nice stainless weld
maybe even welding a piece in the general area for little money.
You could weld it in place , just disconnect the battery ! .
