Unfortunatley though, in my car, not the bike this time !!
Italy 2011
The plan this year was to go to Italy and see a few other places on the way there and back.
A 4 am start took us to the Eurotunnel where we loaded and ate breakfast.
We drove into Belgium and just skimmed Luxemburg and Germany before heading into Metz in France for our first night in a hotel. As we couldn’t cook in a hotel we found a quiet spot in a field and cooked our tea.
Im sure we spotted my Dad nearby !
Next morning we drove down to Switzerland which is a very beautiful country, through the JulierPass and camped the night at St Moritz.
It was cold…..
Very cold…..
Next morning up bright and early and onwards to one of my most eagerly awaited places to visit … the Stelvio Pass !
It was as good as I expected it would be, if you go make sure you have good tyres and brakes !
Later on that afternoon we arrived at Lido De Jesolo close to Venice our camp for the next 7 nights.
The kids quickly made themselves at home and bought a “Snakeboard” each.
After a couple of days relaxing we took a boat trip to Burano, Murano and Venice.
After a very long, hot day we needed a few more days of relaxation.
Then we were ready to move to Rome.
We stayed on a campsite at Lake Bracciano.
We took the train into Rome as everyone said the traffic was hell and the train was so easy, I would recommend this to anyone, the Metro was easy, clean and safe as well as cheap !
Went to see the Pope but he was out !
Hard Life !
A few more days messing around on the lake…
Onwards again to…… Pisa.
Was attacked by a vicious killer lizard !
Moonlight swimming at the camp.
On yet again, tis time up to Geneva via the Mont Blanc Tunnel, robbing gits charged us 36 Euros.
As we were stopping in another hotel we had to find somewhere to cook and found this spot overlooking Geneva and the mountains.
Guess what ?? On again, this time to Paris for 2 nights. Up early, caught the Metro to the Eiffel Tower, up to the top with our prepaid tickets, good job too the queues were huge ! Then spent rest of the day walking around Paris. Fantastic !
We were away for 18 days, the car a Mitsubishi Shogun covered 2850 miles at 26mpg which we were happy with considering how much kit we take with us. We used 2 Oztent RV5s with flysheets, and extra rooms etc which filled our entire roofbox and everything else went into the rear of the car and still allowed us to travel in comfort.
Would we do it again ?? Oh Yes !
