A friend is relocating to Holland from NI soon due to work opportunity and is about to sell his (beloved) but not so young Varadero. His logic being that:- re-registering and a potential minefield of required alterations to modify said bike to comply with European standards, would be a pain in the arse and possibly an expensive option. Thus, he's looking at selling here and buying again over there. However, judging by some of the threads I've seen, (regarding continental riders looking for UK registered bikes) there must be alternative logic to be had? Or is there a difference depending on the make of the bike? Did I also noticed some info regarding a revious re-reg query in Denmark??
Has anybody any pearls of wisdom as to the best approach, (apart from selling it & replacing with a GS of course, before you all jump in.)???
Very new here so if I'm posting in the wrong forum due to Honda content please excuse.....

Move to Holland

Been there & done it with my nearly new Blackbird at the time, tell him NOT to sell here and buy there its very expensive +30%. If he has only one bike he CAN bring it with him and it won't cost much 200Euro circa. The only stipulation is that you cannot sell the bike within 12 months or he will have to pay the import duties. Check the RDW website in holland also in english and it will give you full instructions (I just changed my headlamp, my mate did not and his still passed???) Youll have to have an MOT equivilent test over there. But that will be the last one....no mots on bikes there. If you need any further info drop me a pm as i've been through it a couple of times. Also speak read fluent Dutch if he has a prob,
cheers for now,
Paddy

Cheers Paddy, much appreciate your input which I will duly pass on. Sorry about the delayed response, I've been out of the country and off the web for the last couple of weeks. If he feels he would like to chat things over I may well need to get your contact details, though as I'm novice on here, am not so sure how the pm thing works??
