I wonder if he ever really owned one. Nothing wrong with the indicator paddles. I can jump from my K1200S to my R1150GS an the paddles fall immediately to hand. It is the sort of gearbox that you expect on a bike like that. Niggles?????

If you change gear how it is meant to be done on the bike it is as smooth as butter - the trick on any BMW boxer gearbox is to put pressure on the gear lever BEFORE you go to change gear. Then pull the clutch in. It is always immediate and totally clunk free. If you try to snick it through the gears like a Jap bike, then it is clunky - so it is poor technique, not a poor gearbox.

Hmm, where have I heard that before. :augie:D

Sounds like the 1150 gearbox has issues all of its own, from watching the video and reading the post above :JB

The 1100 had gearbox issues, refined and made good in the 1150, that is 'progress'. The owners accept that it requires skill and finesse to make the gearbox work smoothly, it's payback for an over engineered, hard wearing product, and that is why we love our bikes.

The WC gearbox is a departure from all this knowledge and experience gained through many years of tried and tested production. It is a 'beta' version of a concept and is just crap. Not because it's over engineered, not because it is happy to be a little agricultural, it is just flawed.
I find my gearbox a pleasure to use, but then I'm not interested in shifting gear in 0.36 seconds, we just float along at our pace and get where we are going when we get there.

My point is that some on here are saying that a special "technique" is needed to change gear on the current GS, and they have been flamed for saying that, but it appears that this has been the case on ALL versions of the boxer engined GS.:rob

Like you and your bike, I have no issues with the gearbox on mine. I can change gear in 0.35 seconds :D and it is as smooth as the gearbox on my S1000, so it's obviously taken BMW a couple of years of beta testing to get this one right.;)
