Hi all,

I'm sure many of us sometimes fabricate items for, or make changes to their bike. It could be interesting to bundle them into a inspiring topic I suppose.

I've made a stainless steel copy of the original front brake oil canister support. The one that came with my F650GS started loosing it's powdercoating and got rusty (after 2 winters).

Backrest / something to tie luggage to...

All important license plate frame (good thing are plates are small here, thing weighs quite a bit for what it is)...

I installed it before I was finsihed with it for a test fit. Never took it back off.
Need to to finish the edges and corners and powdercoat it black. Maybe this winter.:blast
 
Not happy to pay the inflated BMW top boxes or the other enduro style ones and didnt want a normal givi type, so bought a pelicase copy off ebay and mounted it on the grab rail bolts

Phuck me....that's a substantial bit of metalwork!!!

Is your wife a porker, or do you carry fridges on the back? :D

No, but it was pretty funny.:P

It's actually because of my welding talents. I suck at tig welding thin metals, so I made it all from fairly thick aluminum plate stock. Plus, It's the thickness that I had on hand without having to order more.
Plates are made with .125" thick material and the uprights were .250" thick.

But it is good to know that I carry both 'fridges and fat bitches with no worry.

Are there some more fastenings that aren't shown?
Just looks like the two ikkle bolts visible are going to be overwhelmed by the weight that that support could no doubt carry :eek

There are four 8mm bolts holding it on. Two of them are on the front edge and don't show in the picture.
Seems very sturdy and doesn't flex at all. Don't think it needs any more than that really.

You're probably right......4 bolts are probably a bit stronger than the subframe :thumb
