Try Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD
After using Pinnacle studio in several versions, I gave up on it as a hopelessly buggy system. And good riddance. After checking out several other products (inc. Avid, Premiere Elements, Magix, ULead, etc.) I settled on Vegas Movie Studio.
And I'm a VERY happy camper! It's a bit different from most of the other products, but is VERY easy to use once you get the hang of it. It's got an outstanding help system, lots of effects and transitions (if you MUST use them) and best of all - is completely stable. It's never crashed once. It also is fully multithreaded, so will fly on a computer with a Core 2 Duo processor (very useful when rendering).
You can download a trial (it's huge) and see how you get on. Recommended.
