Honda CB750K 1980 Registration No BTC671V

Been sat in a shed for over 25 years so will need recommissioning

The engine is free and cranks over

Looks pretty original to me apart from the exhaust

Will be Tax & RFL exempt once registered as Historic

£1500 takes it away

That looks delightful and given the lack of The Borrowers living within it must have been an impressive shed to keep it so well. I wonder what other treasures lay within.

Thats nice, If I hadnt just bought one very similar I'd be interested. I do think you are a little overpriced given it needs recomissioning. £1200 would be my offer as I buy them for that or less in a similar condition.

I took it as a trade in against a NorBSA I had for sale

The guy had mainly H-Ds (about four) pus some older British stuff BSA, Ariel, Velocette and the like

He did have an interesting Royal Enfield 500 Uncle Bunt Chop too

That sounds good value even with the baboons arse back light; quite rare too;

If you were stood in front of me with £1200 in cash then you would likely be taking this home in your van/trailer*

The exhaust looks like a Dunstall amplifier (you couldn't call then silencers). My mates Z400 twin fitted with a Dunstall system was the loudest bike on earth
He had the original silencers but they were goosed

If it doesn't sell and you have still got it available after Easter drop me a message. I need to move a couple of restorations on and have 2 bikes to complete for people awaiting parts that should be done by then so I'll have space. :) I might even do a deal on the Suzuki with you too.
I have a van. 280 miles away though :)

The CB 750 four. Was the bike that lit my motorcycle fuse back in 1976 ish, from that point on I wanted a motorbike, I bought my first motorbike an NSU quickly in 1981. Quickest I could do it :)

what would a ball park cost be for recommissioning be?
Robbieben would probably be best placed to answer that as it would appear he's done one before.

What I will do tomorrow is get it out of the back of my van and take some more detailed photographs of it in the sunlight. The guy I got it from told me it had been stood in his shed for around six years, which is all the time that he's owned it and it was running when he put it in there :thumb

I doubt it will want for much. Probably the carbs cleaning, fresh fuel & plugs, brake fluid (to be on the safe side) new battery, maybe tyres? and away you go :clap

what would a ball park cost be for recommissioning be?
An awful lot depends on what you find when you start getting into the bike. 80% of bikes are usually left stood with fuel in which gums everything up so tank & carbs need a deep clean, then once the tank is clean it needs to be checked for leaks, they invariably do, can it be saved or a new one sourced?
Engines if they are free with good compression are a bonus, invariably though they need a full strip and rebuild as the oil seals always leak, valve guide seals cause smoke when running so its a strip & rebuild with seals gaskets etc, if I'm going that far I fit new cam chain & tensioner, fresh rings & hone the bores. Thats usually the least you'll be looking at engine wise. It may need a rebore or crank regrind which all add costs. Old engine oil left stood in an engine erodes internals quite badly as it carries acids etc created in the combustion process.
Then there are the brakes, caliper seal kits, new pistons in 99% of cases. Strip & rebuild of the forks with new seals etc. Swingarm bearings, strip, examine, clean & regrease, rear shocks, rebuild or replace as again once stood they invariably leak when back on the road.
Then of course there is the paintwork side and replating all the nuts, bolts & fasteners....Its all down to what you want from the bike. Costs can be £2500 up to £6000 for parts & paint etc, then labour at however many hours it takes.
I've recomissioned bikes for people which have cost them £1500.00 up to £34000.00. Bike make, model, spares availability, paintwork required, do I have to manufacture parts all play a huge part in the cost. So if you're buying a bike for £1500.00 add in the cost of recomissioning parts if rebuilding it yourself or factor in the cost of having it done for you. In general I can look at a bike and give a good ballpark figure.

Quite a few of my restorations are in private collections, dealerships & museums.

Sadly the worst thing you can do to any of these old bikes is not using them.

Some of my work below.

Can I just reconfirm that this bike needs recommissioning & riding

It's not for doing a nut & bolt restoration on then storing in your front room. That would be mental :loopy

I see this as a old bike that you could ride all year if you wish?

Tax, MOT & (possibly) ULEZ exempt. Classic insurance too :thumb

Nice, I had one, same colour, but I didn’t have the Dunstall on it.

Quick bike, or so I thought at the time

The cogs in my pea brain are turning. Just retired and looking for an old Honda to mess around with. Is it still for sale?
Also, whereabouts in UK as I'm in Glasgow so would need to consider all issues.
I'm interested
