Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
So the bike which has done 7000 miles in the last few months is now bitching at me for not riding the last few weeks.

Starts on choke but will not rev and will not ride, this happened about a year ago for ten minutes but then kicked in no problem. 10000. miles later 7000 in the last three months and now it happens again but wont get right.

Probably a leccy problem, any pointers please

(won't start at all now, plus battery dead....)

I would imagine this could be a common fault, electrical something or other

XRV site is quiet at the moment

Sorry - can't help
I've owned 2 varaderos and not suffered this problem
Tried the varadero uk forum?

Or main jet?

what's it like with a full tank of fuel?

thought of that, it only has about 60 miles of fuel in it. STILL.... from another post elsewhere:D

OK there is no rush, the bike is on trickle charge, tomorrow or Tuesday.

Check for spark, confirm it is there,
Check connections for fuel pump.

Numpty question but how will I know if the pump is working, never noticed any noise from down there before.

I am relaxed about it, I don't think it is anything major, I have ridden 7000 miles in three months on it, and I am happy on my Cannondale for the time being

Where does one acquire a Facet pump?

should whine or whirr

turn ignition on and tap it with a screwdriver listen for change of silence

Is there a fuse for fuel pump maybe if it was stuck it popped it ?

Pull the feed pipe pipe from the carb and spin the engine over.

Facet pumps and fitting can be found on Ebay quite cheaply....once you find out which one and which fittings or from the xrv forum..

Hi Richie, I had similar problem on mine after a ride in a torrential downpour. The plug for the fuel pump can get wet and short out a fuse. When you first turn the ignition on you should hear the pump whine as it primes itself. I had to run a wire directly from the battery to the pump to test mine, as a previous owners wiring bodge had melted. If the pump whines, it's probably ok. HTH

Sounds like the fuel pump Richie :( check your connections get somebody to spin her over whilst you hold the pump you will feel if the pump is kicking in.

if its fecked then its a good time for a Facet , you know where we are if you need one :thumb

Hiya Chad, ignorance is bliss, but that means that you can supply me one, could you PM me the price and what is needed, I will check it out tomorrow or Tuesday.

PS why is the XRV site always so quiet? I put this up on four sites and the only one with no reply is xrv:blast

definitely fuel related -

try using a gravity fed remote tank - lawnmower fuel tank - and use it directly into the main carb feed.

That'll tell you 2 things

if it works - it the fuel pump or the fuel quality in your tank.

if it doesn't work - your carbs needles valves are stuck - tap them with a big soft hammer and open the fuel drains on the float bowls and drain through till clear.

No experience on a Vara so shoot me down if heading off down wrong track but I did have a firestorm which has v similar engine.
I seem to recall that they had a vacuum connection to open the fuel tap in the tank, seemed strange to me as I found a mechanical tap under there too when I remove tank on a couple of occasions.

O.K. the bike started again for about ten seconds and ran out of fuel...

Took off the plastic bash plate (not).. And took cap off the fuel pump. Absolutely no noises coming out of it at all when starter button pushed.

So now, pretty much sure that it is at fault. If I go the facet route, do I need to buy the elbow joint too, and what is the score with having to cut something for it to fit?

Cheers for answers want to order today as would like the occasional spin:ronno

an hour later

Just put ten litres in, it will run on idle.
