Anywhere along the Normandy coast is littered with sites; you just can't miss them as you ride along. Make sure though you visit the small private museum at Dead Mans Corner (highly recommended, but rarely mentioned) St Mere Eglise, Omaha Cemetary, Arromanche. :thumb

Where are you sailing to? Roscoff, Cherburg, Le Havre?

I started in Cherburg and followed the coast to Caen, later went along to Honfleur which is very pretty. Lots to see.

The best way to track the progress of OVERLORD is as close to chronological waypoints as possible.
If you are like me, and struggle to read internet pages/documents/books, this might sound bad, but watching 'films based on', so The Longest Day, The Band Of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, etc, give you a god odea of what happened and when, and where to go to see the areas of the offensives.

I am in the area of Arromanches/Caen/Falaise from tomorrow night until Tuesday night next week, probably we stay at Arromanches Municipal Camping.
We are taking a couple of trail bikes and ridning the small Bocages lanes if we can find them......;)

One thing you must go see is the 360degree cinema at Arromanches, just East of the town. Brilliant!.

Timpo.

full of narrow quaint streets, theres a great market on saturdays, lots of art displays ,the ww2 beaches of sword juno and omaha are about half an hour to get to the first beach, all easy done in a day,

Enjoy the trip. Love it up that way and still manage to get a fix once a year from down here. Booked in for July. :thumb

Tony,

Great pictures. :thumb2

I particularly like the photos of Honfleur Harbour, they remind me when I sailed to Honfleur in July 1990 on a Westerly Ocean Ranger.
The harbour was so full and overcrowded with people and boats we were rafted up about 8 to 10 boats deep. :eek
It was July 14th and Bastille Day celebrations with loads of Calvados :101 flowing and fire crackers going off.

Honfleur has not changed at all, I recall there was loads of people and a harbour full yachts :D

Excellent memories and thanks again for the great pictures. :aidan

Great pics, however our trip is off. We were going to bring 3 helicopters there, but the advent of new euro rules mean we won't be able to do it in the way we wanted. Bugger!

At least I get to see what I'm missing!

At Honfleur years ago, there was one guy dressed as a clown, standing dead still and if someone moved one of his arms, he would keep the pose until someone else moved it another bit! He was collecting money in a hat and was doing quite well!
