Don't know what your OS you use or what HOOOT is but can you not go into Control Panel , Progs and uninstall?

Failing that, free d/loads can be had from ' download.com ' !

using xp.
Hooot is a redirect malware,not a program .
Has to be removed not just deleted.
Also has a bit of a protection system in it.

1) Make a coffee
2) click HERE and try the various methods
3) when sorted, sit back and have a large one :beerjug:

have looked at most of them but as i cannot access safemode with networking i cant get in to attack the sod.
Cant find the prog on processes which means it must be hidden which again i cant unmask until i can get into safe mode.
Think i might just set fire to my pc :D

Have you tried doing a selective restart? I cant remember exactly where it's hidden in XP, but you can set it to only reboot with MS progs running.....maybe that would get you into a place where you can access safe boot?

run msconfig.exe to configure services at restart

Backup your data.

Assuming it's XP but would probably work with Vista and maybe 7.

Download Malwarebytes on another PC and copy the download to a memory stick.

On the infected PC turn off System Restore and reboot. If it won't accept F8 to boot into safe mode it may be due to a wireless keyboard. Connect an old fashioned one and it may work.

Once in safe mode, log in, connect memory stick and install Malwarebytes. Allow to update and run a full scan. Let it do the business and reboot.

Run another full scan and if all is well turn System Restore back on.

Hope that helps and works for you. To prevent future occurrence ditch Windoze and install Linux. :thumb

Malwarebytes needs to run in normal mode, it may not spot the virus thingy if run in safe mode with few services running. Better to boot with a recovery CD from one of the anti-virus software makers, clean the machine with that if possible.
