Well thought i had everything prepared for my service on the R1200GSA last night and had fogotten about the oil filter removal, so nipped round to halfrauds and bought one of these: http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/hand-tools/laser-oil-filter-cup-wrench-76mm doesnt quite fit but i made it by putting two little slices down the side opposite one another with my angle grinder. Knocked it onto the old filter and its fits good and snug.

So thought it worth sharing if your stuck.

Mine fits when gently hammered on but it will still slip when the filter was fitted by a BMW mechanic.
I shifted mine by drilling a hole in the cup wrench and knocking a screwdriver through.

If you have an OEM filter it has flutes rather than flats which might be why it didn't quite fit - and Laser also do a cup wrench in that style - if memory serves it's the 7882. I ordered it after butchering the old fiter to get it off - more or less had to destroy the fiter to remove it - strap wrench crushed it, drift on collar ripped it, screwdriver tore through it. I have not tried the Laser for fit but wantedto make sure I had it come next service, although I suspect I didn't putit on quite as tight as the last guy!

My issue with the laser one off the shelf from Halfords was it wouldnt go over the filter hence the opening either side to give it the ability to slip over the filter. My point here was that if your up the creek then its an off the shelf option at your local halfords. Just thought it was worth a mention.

I always use K&N filters on all my bikes, come with a 17mm nut welded on the base of the filter....problem solved.

I bang a screwdriver on corner its never failed costs nowt,a filter shouldnt be tightened up too much the proper way is by hand then maybe a slight turn, but Iv had stupid tight ones some people are fools :blast

My laser oil filter cup fits fine. But it slipped on a filter that must have been fitted by a gorilla. I eventually shifted it by drilling a hole in the wrench and banging a screwdriver through.
The filter is so pocketed by sump and exhaust it's all too easy to wrench the new one too tight.
