HOPING TO BE AN RT OWNER

Hi to all forum members, partymarty here seeking bike nirvana and maybe an RT will do the job.
Weather permitting, I will be test riding a 2005 r1200rt this weekend. Has 27k and a pretty comprehensive service history and I wanted to ask for any possible advice off you gentlemen/ladies re what to look/listen for?

Have had numerous bikes in the last few years but wind/weather protection is at the top of my list and the rt seems to score highly on that point.

Welcome. Be careful not to pay too much. I've had a few. Good bike easy 53/54 mpg. Get any warranty you can. Jjh

Just bought an 07 12Rt and loving it already... It's a good step up from the 1150's and has a fantastic fairing... Mine is a pretty high spec bike and I can think of nothing I need for it apart form a higher screen to let me use the high seat setting... I have been riding it in very wild weather up here and it is great in poor and windy conditions... Enough bulk and aerodynamics to be pretty stable and solid...

Watch the linked servo brakes which are fairly sharp to operate and take a bit of getting used to... Apart from that have a cracker of a test ride...

If its got esa make sure the preload adjustment is working.
You should also feel a noticeable difference between damping adjustments.

Hi again,
Thank you for your replies and completed the test ride on one of the windiest days ever but bike felt quite planted and stable.
A very different ride to my recent machine but overall was very impressed especially with the screen and fairing which offered what seemed like great weather/wind protection.
Seat was on lowest setting and could get my feet down ok,ish but the pegs seemed set high so may need to look at peg lowering kits to look after my creaking bits!
Will be buying this bike very soon and will be looking forward to some milder weather to get out and about.
