Just got the latest Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers' e-zine and I see that there is a HU meeting 28-30 May 2010 near Enniskillen.

The e-zine is well worth subscribing too with lots of on the road stories and info.

This info is from the 75th edition which is not yet online.

Hello Mr Oilhead, what exactly goes on at a HU weekender?
I'm just at the routeplanning stage for a trip to Ireland (6 or 7 of us from Nidderdale in Yorkshire) and I'm thinking, maybe, it might be worth calling in at Enniskillen for that.
Free Guinness? Live bands? Cheap nosh? Loads of Scandinavian girls with huge great Katoomies?:drool
The HU website looks interesting anyway.:)

Tw@ Features,
Haven't been to one myself but maybe Enniskillen next year.
Have a look here:

and you should get an idea of what might be involved.

I'm seriously interested in this, it's an excellent excuse for my first visit to Northern Ireland. Obviously I'm going to need ferries and was thinking of Holyhead to Dublin on the way out. Which would be a good ferry for the return trip?

And what 'must see' places do I need to include in this trip?

Hi Tim,
How are things? We met on the Santander/Portsmouth boat at Easter and had a good chat about our respective trips to Morocco.

Ferry routes - Have a look here: http://www.directferries.ie/routes.htm for alternatives.

'Must see places' I sure that has been covered in previous threads but PM me and we can work out some routes for you.

Regards
Alex

Hello all
i went to the HUMM 09 in Ripley, Derbyshire.
It was a good event - big pub with camping.
The idea is for round the world bikers to meet up. It is a weekend of lectures on travelling, first aid , mechanics etc.
There can be a few folk who take themselves too seriously, and being a biker who has "just" ridden in Europe, I was one of the stay at home sissys!
I met Lois, Ted Simon, Simon Gandolfi , Dan Walsh and Sam Manicom who all did presentations. Anyone who has done a trip can do a presentation, whether famous or not. Would suit "the Celt".
Can be a few squares at it (ie no where near as much fun as the Tipp run...respect to Aidan and Mandy), but I really recommend it... I'm looking forward to it even without reading the Horizons article. 'm sure it will be extra good being in Ireland.

Stay at home sissy? mmmmmm,I'm afraid that could be me. I've done plenty of bike rallies on my old Bonnie and various Harley's but I've never been away from mainland U.K. Plenty of opportunity, invites etc. I have an old school buddy in Arkansas who's the Prez of the local chapter of the oldest 1% club and has a spare bike, he's invited me to travel over there and ride with them to Sturgis or Laughlin. I'd love to do it..... Route 66? love to do that too.
UNFORTUNATELY............the thought of,not just an airliner, but a feckin' airport scares the sh!t out of me. Likewise,I only live about 65 miles from Hull so a ferry to Europe is only an hour away but you could'nt drag me kicking and screaming onto one of those. I've even been to stand on the dock to watch the ferry load up but nearly spewed.
Since I got the 12gs in June I've been looking on here and some of the ride reports and photo's are truly inspiring,I've just been looking on the HU website and some of those look truly AWE inspiring.
I've been for three trips around Scotland in the 4 months I've had the GS :) but I'd really like to get further afield.
Whilst in SW Scotland I passed Cairnryan. I've made my mind up to FORCE myself to book a ferry to Larne and get over to Ireland for a ride 'round. I think, somewhere at the back of my mind, is the idea that if I can see Scotland behind and Ireland in front I can always swim if the bleedin' boat sinks.
Anyway,I'll be registering for Enniskillen and if you hear some kind of weird howling noise coming from Cairnryan one morning, that'll be me.

Well, you got to be careful....one hit and you may become addicted! Still, the chance to ride with your mate in the US....Ireland will be a good place to get broken in!
Will see ya there.
regards
Brendy
