Hi

I have heard from somewhere that a simple and worthwhile horn upgrade is to fit a horn off a 5 series BMW car.
2 questions..
1. Will there be a problem with the original wiring to supply the power WITHOUT having to fit a relay?
2. What year of car are we talking??

My bike is a 2015 year version (GS)

My friend has fitted one of the ones in the link below..It sounds like a car/truck horn..
His bike is an older non can bus bike (2005 Suzuki GSXR750)
I assume I couldn't fit one straight to my bike without a relay?
As you may have gathered I dont want to start splicing wires and fitting relays etc..

To save alot of buggering about why not just get a denali sound bomb mini for 20 odd quid delivered

Plug and play

Or get a full akra system and never use your horn again.

When you say plug and play, it fits straight in and the plug goes on with no canbus fiddling etc ?
If so, will get one.:bow

I have a Stebel Magnum (low) on my GSA. Available on eBay for just over £20

With a bit of jiggery pokery just about fits where the original horn goes and is a LOT louder than OE at 136DB.

No problem with the Canbus but it has spade connectors so you would have to buy an adapter from somewhere like NN or cut the original connector off and use a female spade connectors

Mike

Why is the picture upside down.....tried 4 times...never has this problem before

I can’t remember ever having to use the horn in the last 20 years of riding a motorcycle, however if you do have a need may as well buy one people can hear.

Hay mate,

I just fitted a 5 Series (part no 7159421)low tone horn to both my 2015 RT and GSA! Yes plug and play and direct swop on both! Just need to bend th bracket about 2-5mm to allow the bigger unit!

Load as feck! £7 on eBay each

Cheapest mod ever! FACT

Ordered ! Should be here tomorrow .
Great info thank you :bow:bow

Mine came this morning.
Just given it a lick of paint.
When i fit tomorrow i will do a decibel before and after and let you all know.
My 5 series horn was £9 off ebay - delivered next day !
The little plug was attached to keep the socket clean - looks identical to the one on my GS.

Which part no did you order from eBay ? The video of the American chap seems to note a different part no. The part number mentioned earlier 7159421 appears on eBay as a 3 series horn rather than 5 series.....but I guess they can use the same horn on multiple series !

Genuine used BMW part

This is what was on the ebay advert.

Ok so bmw horn fitted.
Really easy and as said before the bracket needs bending a tiny bit (pushed over by hand).
Original GS horn was 90 decibels and new bmw car horn was 94 decibels which is quite a lot as the range is not truly linear.
In my opinion it is way louder and deeper - as it should be. The GS horn was also a bit “tinny”.
When i tried the GS horn nothing happened but when i did the car horn the dogs went mad and the mrs came running in the garage :thumb2
Less than a tenner and 30 minutes well spent.
Pic below of both on and off the bike.
