Thinking replacing std horn with a stebel magnum 12 v 139db

yes.. straight swap. takes two minutes and is LOUD. (single bolt to hold in place and original spade connectors.. nothing complicated)
Nautilus is even louder but is nowhere near as straightforward.

The Stebel Magnum is a good horn, but try and place it in a way water can't get in, or it won't be loud when you need it most.....don't ask me how I know!

On a recent (very wet) trip to Scotland, one of our party discovered that his newly fitted Stebel had been transformed into a comedy duck quack generating device. Good for making the rest of us laugh but not much cop as a horn

simple answer to that: put it exactly where the original went. that's exactly what I did. Why mess about with a different position?
Who said it was in a different position? He put it in the same position (1200).
I think it was more to do with the orientation - the opening of the 'horn' was oriented such that water thrown at it couldn't drain and left the diaphragm of the horn gargling in water.

well I never. no wonder he had problems. seems particularly odd to me throwing up a problem with THAT bike as a possible problem with the older ones.
when of course.. it isn't. unless you're particularly stupid.
I didn't even think about 'orientation'... why should I. the original horn was fine.. I just wanted something a tad louder. and fitted it in exactly the same way the original was.

Mine did exactly the same thing on an 1150GSA during a typical Belgium downpour!
Having said that, I've not had any problems on my 12GSA!
This is not a 1150 v 1200 comment as I am very fortunate to have both

clever bit of editing there Mr man... the original doesn't have a habit of failing due to water ingress.. and so if you replace it with another in the same position... which I did.. why should it suddenly fail?
It couldn't be 'oriented' in a different way without cutting cable ties and thus getting more room to manoeuvre. and why on earth should i do that?
In my strange version of reality that is what a 'straight swap' is. old one out... new one in. job done.
But.. if you and some other tossers decide that paranoia is the name of the game.. based on what happened on an entirely different machine. that fine. BE paranoid.
I find it everso entertaining. As you do it so well.

In answer to a previous comment mentioning orientation, I mentioned that a friend who fitted one to his 1200 also had water issues - hence worth bearing in mind when the OP fits his. Do well meaning attempts to provide help (based on personal experience) deserve accusations of paranoia and stupidity?

Should have refitted that thing you had on the old ZX9 mate ............ first time i heard "MOOOOOOOOOO" followed by "BAAAAAAAAAAAA" in authentic animal noise while riding down a packed street in the same group as you i nearly fell off the bike laughing
