when my g/s gets hot the clutch seems to stiffen up, the cable is only a few months old (and an oe one), it does run close ish to the right hand exhaust but if its heat damaged inside surely it would be stiff when cold? clutch splines need greasing? thanks peps:thumb2

Don't mention cables to me !!!!

Took a lot of flack off Vern for replacing/removing everything ( clutch, gearbox etc etc ) only to find I had TWO faulty cables !!! They were BMW OE as well. Motorworks replaced the one they sent me and all is well in Kenny world these days. You shouldn't really lube them..but a few drops of ACF50 or a good squirt of GT85 should reveal if the cable has dried up. I found my cables were OK off the bike but were failing under load.

nice one kenny, i ll try a bit of lube first and if thats the prob will fit a new cable and try to re route or protect from exhaust, its deffinatly singed the outer,:thumb

I've had similar issues with the featherlite cables not lasting long - I think the last one only survived a couple of months. I do ride every day in all weathers though. The standard Venhill cables last longest for me.

re stiff clutch

it sounds like it might be the clutch release piston, its at the back of the gearbox behind the rubber boot at the end of the release lever, these get contaminated with oil and swell up causing the symptoms you have when the engine is hot but are usually not to bad when the engine is cold., the job is easy but fiddly to do, new parts about £32, or very carefully use some emery paper to reduce the size of you old one a little, if it was mine i would buy new parts, do not grease or oil the new plastic piston (or your old one) when you put it back together, or it will swell up again. While you have it apart lubicate the bearing / bushing on the clutch release arm pivot.
look at the picture in the link, it is part number two you will need........ian

Ditto the above. It happened to mine, several years ago and all I did was strip the parts out and clean all the crud away, rebuilt and the bike has been ok since
(it got soo bad I was doing clutch dumping starts away from traffic lights, with left hand not even on bars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

thanks guys, started with the simplest first and changed the cable(with the old left tied into place, nice to have a spare in situ) , re-routed new so not so close to exhaust and all seems good, might start on right hand improvement anyway:augie
