Avoid the above hotel on booking.com. Shysters.

I booked a date in June, one night, with free cancellation before. I may have, in a tired state when booking, have authorised one payment up front without twigging the amount (my bad), even though my stay is not till June and I chose the free cancellation option where you pay more and usually pay the balance a few days before or at the hotel.

Checking my account today the cheeky bastards have taken two payments off me, for different amounts in the £90 region (suspect in itself) and are not answering communication sent earlier today on the booking.com app asking as a minimum (politely) for one payment to be returned as I am only staying one night.

Google/trip Advisor reviews shows them to have form here, and comments from some reviewers refer to SCAMMERS who do not answer communication or refund payments within the free cancellation period.

Currently I am not able to do a chargeback/dispute as the two transactions currently show as pending. I an expecting booking.com to be useless (despite 10 years of never having a problem) but that might be might next step. What I cant understand is most reviews seem happy with the stay, which I checked on booking.com prior to going ahead.

I only wish I could speak French

Avoid booking.com

corrected

if I am not booking direct I am mostly using Hotels/Expedia .com (same company) unless forced to use those cúnts for a specific hotel

better booking experience with clear pricing for prepay compared to flexible, few if any cock-ups, never been fleeced by a client hotel, better rewards scheme and 10% Topcashback

best screening tool for hotels is Google maps as it often gives the cheaper direct price as well as comparing booking sites.

Yeah certainly made me think twice from them being my go to booking site, livid over this, probably going to cancel the stay there tonight (as I dont want to stay there after this) so the ask will be clear, I want both payments via my mastercard back which will probably end up as a mastercard dispute if booking.com dont oblige.

possible moral of the story, dont just rely on the booking sites own reviews , check google and trip advisor reviews too

If you have 2x payments showing as pending it is quite often the case that one of them will not go through so you will only be charged the one

Im not saying this is the case just offering you a ray of hope

I had a bit of a fall out with Booking.com last year on a hotel we use in Portugal

Booked at a price of £55 with the balance to be taken 3 days before with free cancellations

They took £60 as the hotel had put the price up between booking and paying

That does make sense Rick, what ive seen today is that quite a few trip advisor and google reviews of them paint a bleak picture with some similar stories and no refunds to cancellations in the cancellation period, two identical payments would be less suspicious to me, as in yeah system glitch and they tried twice, two different £ payments on the same evening (perhaps exchange rate fluctuations ?)....and the fact they aren't responding to any comms, and those reviews referring to 'scammers'

I must admit to using booking.com often when away. HOWEVER, in the last couple of years I’ve had a couple of, shall we say hick ups.
I’ve also had money taken early, then when we get to the hotel, they try and charge me again.
I feel a lot of the problems are down to increased options on the site. In the early days it was is there a room here. Yes, or no. Simples.
On one hotel I booked there were 5 different options available for the same room. Whose getting the money, is there breakfast, free cancellation etc.
But I suspect all these sort of websites are similar.

My bank have been great and come up trumps this week on crediting my account and raising two disputes for the two transactions Peonia took from my account. Up to 45 days for them to dispute the chargeback. Booking.com will step in but only if the bank chargeback fails. Booking are being really slow to strike this hotel off but assure me in an American twang they are looking into it - not convinced tbh which is pretty shameful if they dont.

Repeated polite emails to the hotel asking them to confirm which if any was the correct transaction and the status of refunds have received zero response. As was a voicemail asking to get in touch.

Peonia at Home are absolute thieving twats.

Just looked and they are still regularly ripping punters off

I too have been using Booking.com as my go to place to find accommodation.
I don’t like all the ‘operated by a private host’ listings that have found their way/been encouraged on to the site over the last few years.

I’ll have a look at Hotels.com although the one and only time I booked through them about 10 years ago was a total failure.
Hotel closed, no record of my booking, apparently Rude owner….although it was France.
Not the fault of Hotel.com of course but it was easier just to go back to what I knew. Booking.

Anyway, good luck to the OP both of the charges cancelled/refunded.

Beware of the reviews on Booking.

I do use Booking.com and generally never had an issue. But a couple of years ago, while traveling in Germany, I had a very unpleasant experience with an hotel that didn't honour my booking (at the end of a really long riding day) acted like proper cnuts about it and booking had been fairly useless with solving the issue.

I managed to find another hotel on my own, but the thing that infuriated me is that I was unable to leave a negative review for the hotel on the site as booking.com effectively cancelled my stay and thus you are unable to leave any feedback.

So, if you have an issue with an hotel before actually staying in, in most cases, negative feedback will not appear on the site.

I admit, apart from this single case, the rest of the experience with booking for me has always been flawless.

Booking.com-they is cùntz, innit .
Also avoid the channel tunnel and P & O ferries. Also cùntz-I read it here .
Just need Brittany Ferries to be vilified and that’ll be no steak and FRITZ for many tossers . Happy days 😜

true, unless you actually stay there you cannot leave a review on the booking website, so my example where you have had to cancel never finds its way to booking.com feedback/review page for the hotel.

I will be leaving reviews on trip advisor snd google once my chargeback is complete.
