Having taken out an over the phone policy with Swinton Bikes I told the agent not to use my mobile phone number to hound me with senseless offers to save me money on other products. Well, I was hounded over the course of two days and nights and when I finally got to speak to someone I asked for a manager on which to vent my anger. None was available but I was promised 100% that one would phone me the following day. Needless to say, they didn't and I just think they were fobbing me off.

Being unable to let sleeping dogs lie, I had a go at their Customer Services who told me that the way you opt out isn't during the application process (either over the phone or on-line) but by reading the small print on page 5 of the policy document and then phoning them to say that you don't want to be hounded on your mobile phone. Feathers and spit come to mind.

So, if you'd prefer to be drying-off your FPC instead of fending off calls from Swinton, you might want to find another insurer. They certainly won't be getting my business next year.

I never give my real number when buying anything, I just make one up, saves a lot of hassle :thumb

I had the same trouble with Swinton. Texts and calls on my cell phone, calls on my land line, endless emails and loads of junk mail through my door trying to sell me every bloody insurance imaginable. I complained and it still didn't stop so I won't use them ever again that's for certain.

Try a telephone preference service like mpsonline.org.uk, it is free and has stopped mine :)

I used my email to buy home insurance for my mother in law from them because of a good cash back offer and got a regular email offering every other type of insurance. It only stopped when I did not renew the following year and went with another company who had a better offer that year. Mother in law got a few weeks of phone calls trying to persuade her to renew with them at renewal time. They do eventually seem to forget you however.
