House insurance went up from £288 last year to £369 this year. I called to inform them there’s only 2 adults instead of three at the address and it made a difference of approx £1.50 a month so they knocked off £1.44 for the next 28 days until renewal.
While I was on the phone I asked the very nice lady if she could explain the ~28% price increase. She couldn’t but did offer to look and see if there was any discount that could be applied.
After said discount , and the £1.44 refund :) it came down to £299.
Happy with that but it still annoys me that they inflate the price in the first place.

We are a little bit stuck with our insurance provider because the house suffered some tree root damage 30 years ago. Other companies won’t touch it because of this but the insurance provider also provided our original mortgage and insured it from day one.

I did the usual online checks this year and got a range of quotes. I then called Direct Line and spoke to a human being who was working from home. After a bit of good humoured chat about the echo in her spare room and the clatter of her nails on the keyboard she gave me a quote and asked me how that sounded. Hmm ... Ok, how does £30 off sound?

Quite happy with the human touch thanks!

Renewal annoys me.

You call and get the increase knocked off. Just one of life's irritations.

My home insurance renewal just dropped.. £411. Up from £244 last year. Same company, same home, nothing changed.

Thats a 68% increase

But inflation is 2%, right?

It's all part of the money grab that's going on all around us.... everything increasing with no explanation as to why.

Council tax set to rise again next year whilst the services provided seem to diminish year on year

I was expecting to get totally reamed on my car insurance this year as it went up a lot last year

I had a little look around the comparison sites and yes the quotes were all an increase of about 40% on what I paid last ( which was a fair chunk)

The renewal came through from Saga and lo and behold it was circa £200 cheaper than last year

Go figure

My house insurance jumped a bit. I wondered why until I remembered the water leak which required digging through the foundations.
