How accurate are delivery dates ?

My bike is due for delivery to the dealer on 21st May and for delivery to me on 24th of May
However, I'm off to France for a week on the 1st June, a trip of around 1400mls so I would have to get the first service in before I go.
I have to take it to the supplying dealer as it was part of the deal.

I've told the dealer that I'm more than happy to go on my TC and pick the new bike up on my return.
Understandably they would prefer not to do this, 1400 more miles on my bike,much nearer to the next service being due plus extra wear on the tyres.
So I'm presuming that if I decide to wait until I come back the part ex value on my twin cam is going to have taken a drop.

If the bike was delivered to me on the 24th I would have 3 clear days between then and other commitments before I go to France to get 600mls on it and it's 1st service done which would not be a problem.

Sorry it's long winded but I do have a tendency to waffle

I believe that the delivery date to the dealer is normally accurate, but your timing leaves no room for unforeseen problems, which by their very nature cannot be foreseen

Sounds too tight - I would go on the TC and pick up new bike on return.

Yes it does.
Just spoke to the dealer he's trying his best to get me one a bit earlier but it may be a different colour.
I ordered a white TE but they have a blue basic model in the showroom.
Blue was my original first choice and he is prepared to swap the panels if he can get me another bike.
He's explained that if he gets a red one and swaps the panels that the bike will always show up as being a red one on their system,but I don't have a problem with that.
Fingers crossed might get it sorted and save myself a few bob

Best get into the shed and start taking all the bits off my old one.

Mine arrived a few days early. I would stick with the one you ordered, and get the first service booked in NOW. If you wait for the bike to arrive, you may find that the service dept is fully booked by then. Don't compromise on spec and colour just to get it in time for the trip.

If the bike doesn't arrive in time, the dealer is the one that gave you the delivery date, so just take your twin cam, and make sure they sick to the trade in figure they gave you.

He's explained that if he gets a red one and swaps the panels that the bike will always show up as being a red one on their system,but I don't have a problem with that.

That's bull my 2006 GSA was white delivered to the dealership but was changed to yellow panels in the dealership before delivery and to this day it shows on the BMW system as a yellow GSA which for 2006 is very rare.

Congrats. As long as its the spec you want, you can change colour easily laser on.

The first service may be part of the deal but the drop in value of your current bike will possibly be greater than if you paid for the first service.

If the schedule is tight then get the first service done during your trip - just plan ahead.

According to my dealer mine comes on the 24th of May. I reckon as the bikes are built in Germany, they might come in the same shipment, perhaps on the 21st and to be distributed across the country on the 24th? This is just me speculating.

When I placed the order though, I remember the salesman showing me on his computer that my GS was in the building stage, and I could see in his computer monitor that there was around 10 stages in the process.

I reckon they do know when they come but don't tell want to compromise to on a fixed date. My sales person always tells me the "computer says" 24th.

Anyway, it will be worth the wait hehe
