How deep can she go?

With driving through the recent floods all over dublin, I was wondering whats the general safe depth that the GS (1200) will go in water without conking out and having to push her out?

Half way up the cylinder heads was my guess

I reckon its higher as the air intake is under one the side panels on the right hand side. Exhaust might be a problem first if you have modded it, thats if you let the revs drop obviously.

There are threads about engine damage from fording when water was ingested through the air intake.Some hard core forders fit a snorkel to the 1200(threads about this as well)

The bottom of the original air intake is roughly in line with the lower wishbone of the front paralever. Allowing for a bow wave effect I would be slow to venture deeper than half way up the cylinder heads.

There is also the issue of the breather for the final drive, if that is not modified before immersion the oil will become contaminated and possibly emulsified.

Hmmmmm..... don't know about that....


The air intake seems to be the biggest issue, mine just kept going so I'd say above the top of the cylinders but below the intake.
BTW the dust cap on the rear bevel is not waterproof ! It turns into milky stuff.
