Nothing much you can do really, most IP's are now dynamic so they change once a computer restarts. You can do a trace route to see which ISP they are using or which country they are from, but thats about all the info your going to get which wont help you much.

As said above, change your password (always use letters and numbers in your password)

Should the same person continue contact your ISP and put in a complaint and they'll take things from there.

If you do a reverse DNS lookup you can see who they are although it will probably just go to an Access Provider.

Try:
http://remote.12dt.com/

But yes best bet change your password... simplest solution one hopes... might be worth changing all your passwords if you think you have been compromised... Forums might be a bit on an issue but ebay/paypal/bank more so!!!

thanks for the info chaps . its more about finding the individual and have their nuts on a plate !!!:augie

i have my suspicions but just need a bit more evidence..:thumb

IP address info

In theory, it's possible to locate where someone is geographically from their IP address (http://www.infosniper.net/index.php)

However, in practice it doesn't work too well a lot of the time (it tells me I'm in London, but I'm not).

That page will also tell you what ISP a person is using.

The two together could be quite revealing if you already suspect someone (e.g. you think it's your next door neighbour and know they're on Virgin broadband, and it locates the user as being in your neighbourhood and on Virgin).

So, *might* be useful, but you can't draw too many conclusions from it.

You could always report the person to *their* ISP for sending abusive messages. The ISP will know who has an IP address at any one time.

Ip address on its own wont tell you who it is without a court order. The ISP will be able to reveal the household but as a normal punter they aren't going to give you the time of day. The other site owners can see if that IP address has any other posts against another username there for might be able to tie it to someone. IP Addresses don't actually change that often if it is cable or ADSL, I have had mine for about 9 months now even although it isn't fixed. As above you will be able to get it to a town yourself if you know where the person you suspect lives.

Find the ISP of the person using some of the above tools. Go to that ISP's web page (e.g. www.demon.net for demon) and look for a link to report abuse. If there's nothing there send an e-mail to abuse@<insert ISP here, e.g. demon.net> and give them the time (and timezone), date, IP address and what they've done.
All ISPs should have an abuse address, but they may not monitor it too well.
Good luck.

Did you get anywhere with this?

thank you chaps :thumb2 the net is closing .
Just out of interest - always nice to hear of someone who snipes/abuses/bullies when they *think* they're anonmous, only to find out that they're not
