Got a photo of my grandfather for Christmas on a Royal Enfield - no idea when the picture was taken or what model it is but I'd be interested in tracing the history of the bike - any of you lot know to go about this? He lived in Letterkenny, Co Donegal and the reg looks like IH2940 - there's a possibility that there is no "I" at the front - it's not the clearest part of the photo.
thanks!

DG ................IH Was a Donegal registration years ago.........................maybe the Vehicle Registration people in that County would be worth contacting.....................:thumb2

Just to confirm this, in 1959 my father bought a car of Gerry Kinnean in Belfast many years ago. A 1951 Hillman Minx Registration: IH 9901.
Even though originally registered in Donegal, it was subsequently transferred to
Northern Ireland whist still retaining the Donegal registration. (Could be done in those days)
Gerry old my father it "Had one Lady owner from new". He didn't tell my father about the 6 gentlemen owners it also had. Father only found out when he received the logbook a few weeks later.

Here is Sligo the registration records for old vehicles are held in the local museum. The Museum is operated by Sligo County Council.

I would suggest that Donegal County Council office in Lifford should be your first port of call.

I'll try and get the digital image from the photographer who enlarged the photo for lynda and stick it up here for ye noodles.
