Probably quite simple and i may well have done it already, but how do you check what warranty / recall work has been done to you bike.

I phoned local dealer but they wern't that helpfull.

I asked whether BMW would replace parts on a 'pre empting' basis so that i wasn't stranded and they indirectly wouldn't have the cost of recovering my bike, shifting around the workshop schedule to sort my bike as a priority, aranging to deliver it back to me and having a disgruntled customer on the phone but they said 'no sir, we just wait till it breaks'.

Is this the norm and how do i find out re warranty issues on my bike and recall work?

Thanks:)

Some of it might be recorded in the service manual, but unless you can hack into their database you will need to find a friendly dealer.

Your dealer SHOULD tell you what's been done and if there are any recalls outstanding. I'd go in to the dealer and stand there until they told me:thumb

No manufacturer that I know of will change a part that' s not broken unless it's an official recall so their answer is "normal".

Why don't you just ring any BMW dealer and give them the registration number. :nenau

When I wanted to check something on my previous GSA, Rydales could tell me loads about the bike (even stuff done by another BMW dealer) just from the registration number, as it was all logged on a central computer.

Im sure i read on here that some folk have managed to get bits on their 1200 replaced before the go faulty?

Depends what it is.

Ring antenna and front shock (for ESA) are included in "repair campaigns", I think the phrase is, so if your dealer's any cop they should be scheduling the work next time you're booked in for a service. At least that was the opinion held when I chatted to BVM, anyway. I think there's something else on repair campaign, but can't remember what it is - FPC, perhaps?

Can't think what parts this would be .................. what are you thinking of ?

The only possible item that I can guess that you are angling for is a FPC. I don't think anyone has come up with the definitive "bullet proof" item yet. If it is this - best answer is to carry a spare. :aidan

left in the cold

if the ring antenna is replaced while the bike is being serviced, what happens if you service your bike yourself? surely you should still expect the replacement of any substandard parts?
we should be told

This is one way you miss out. :nenau

But if you've been a regular on here you would know all about the antenna ring issue. You would then take your bike to a dealer and ask him if yours was one of the affected bikes. If so ask him to replace the antenna ring.

Just outa Interest what Dealer did you phone? J.C???????

I popped into Linds in Norwich last weekend and gave them the details of my 08 GSA and they told me what works was needed - they mentioned the EWS and as I am commuting regular 500 miles round trips they agreed to do the work before its 6000 miles service. They are also going to do the fuel gauge level as thats not reading right. They also mentioned the front strut campaign and as yet my bike is not in the list for replacement - by all accounts they are being done in batches and it will probably be called back or done at the 6000 miles service.

I've always found them hit or miss, good for the car but when they had bikes they were shocking sales wise, Aberdeen and Dundee. I went to Dundee got ignored ended up in Edinburgh who were excellent so bought a bike. That said Inverness who we walked from, buying a car, (Got in Aberdeen) were fantastic for the bike. I'm Turra'ish so Inverness gets the bike, Aberdeen the car. Shocking really but I put my money were my mouth is and walk if service is bad. :rob
