How do I..............

.............stop certain programmes loading up and running, when I start up the PC ? When I boot up, the task bar shows all sort of programmes are running. I know that I can shut them down one at a time, but how do I stop them running in the first place ?

I use a program called Crap Cleaner which is a free download available from http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/.

When you open it, select tools, choose Startup and you will get a list of all programs opened when you boot up. Just delete the entries you don't want.

Yes, I agree with Humbug , or you can use Spybot to do the same.

If you feel confident enough it can be done by editing the registry, but not going to tell you how unless you are happy to do so, as it can kill your machine if done wrong

..or you can go start>run>type "msconfig">ok>startup tab

and disable most startup items there.

Simple way, open the program go into options or prefrences or settings they'll generally have one of those, and either check or uncheck the relevant box.

Thanks, but no thanks Snooky..........definitely not confident enough to go too deep. I've done what Humbug suggested, and everything works a treat.

CCleaner is a very good little prog.

Run it once a month for a good clearout as well as startup prog clearing
