I want to format my hard disk, as my computer is getting slow and is pretty full up. Question is, how can I backup my e-mails so when I format the hard disk, I don`t loose them?
In Outlook, you wil find a file with extension .pst
This contains all your emails.
Before re-formatting, why try a massive delete of all old msgs?
Or archive all older than say 3 months old. till easy to access but the archive file is not open in ram when the main folder is open, as far as I know. So things work quicker.
In Outlook select file then export, this will allow you to export all your e-mails, contacts etc to a file on your PC and then copy that file to a CD.
When you get your PC sorted out just use file, import to drag the info back into Outlook.
Paul, as stated above, if you're using Outlook (Not Outlook Express) you can simply backup the .pst file. In other email clients however you, probably best doing some RTFM or the more modern version STFN. There's usually some export and/or backup feature.
FYI You can back up Outlook Express email folders. But they are located in hidden folders on your hard drive.
If you don't want to export them and want to directly back them up let me know and I'll post up where to find them, since you probably don't want to be poking around in there without a specific reason!
