Does anyone know how to remove a top box lock barrel without a key.

The lock is open.

I know there are threads relating to lock removal, but they all seem to require the key to depress the wafers prior to the barrel being removed.

There is a small hole on the inside of the box near the key end of the barrel, press a bit of wire or a small screwdriver into this and the barrel should pop out.

Good luck!

If it is the Adv Top box, look on the inner side of the barrel and you will see a square, get a paper clip and unbend and insert or a small piece of wire, should just pop out, if not use a pliers to pull.

Yep, as long as the catch is open and you can get the wire to the lock holding mec, then you are in.

Call me if you have problem.

Sorted

Don't need a key with BMW locks, just slide a small pen knife in, give it a bit of a wiggle, and the locks work.

Why waste money on having your keys coded, just buy a small swiss army knife.

Anyway, managed to get barrels out. But a bit worried about the security of the BMW locks now. Must check this out with my old existing locks to see if I can get into them.

I seem to remember a guy on the board posting about someone nicking his helmet out of his top box without smashing the lock, now I know why.

Anyway, more than happy with my new top box.

I'm very interested to speak to this guy because the same thing happened to me last week. I had my bike parked outside Waterloo station. Came back, my second lid was missing and now you can lift the handle and open the lid regardless if the topbox is locked or not. :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire
If you can address me to this guy it would be brill, I need to sort it out prior to my european trip in 3 weeks...
