Looking at riding down to Dakar in April 14.
Have just found out that you now need a visa to enter Senegal, can you get it on the border or do you have to apply before going ???
I seem to remember getting mine from the embassy in London.....send passport and covering letter, a nominal fee (40 quid? can't remember) then they send it back pretty quickly afterwards.
I think (but check on it) that you can also get it done with a day's wait in Rabat Morocco.
Google is your friend though, even if someone who got one last month pipes up........things change
Oh, and you HAVE to get a yellow fever inoculation as well, and take the certificate with you....I have been across a couple of times and wasn't ever asked for it, but allegedly they will deny you entry if they ask and you haven't got one.
Your local Doctor's will do that, and again, there's a fee both for the jab and the certificate......get on to that pretty soon. cos I seem to remember there's a good chance of feeling like shyte for a few weeks afterwards
Senegal now requires a Biometric Visa. The UK embassy does not have the necessary equipment to provide this (a retina scan and electronic fingerprinting). On the recent Scoots trip we got these from the embassy in Madrid. For eight of us the whole process took about 3 hours. There are other embassies which can provide them and a useful guide can be found HERE.
Also try to avoid the border crossing at Rosso. Diama is a much better, cheaper and less hassle place to enter.
