Having just rode my Shiney New GS12 home from the dealer yesterday I find that the bike is covered in mud etc.

Is there any spray etc that people use on the whole bike which helps to stop the dirt sticking to the bike making cleaning easier?

Thanks

Ian

Er............not really

Washing and elbow grease

Because Oilheads are oil/air cooled they tend to run hotter than a watercooled motor..............so mud & road crap gets 'baked on ' at v high temp and can be a bugger to shift.

Plus the engine's exposed and picks up everything that's thrown at it !!

Welcome to the world of GS's and difficult cleaning ...............!!!

Wait for it to cool down. Hot engines and cold water is not a good mix and as JB say boxers run hot. Once it's cooled I spray with Mucoff cleaner then pressure wash it, avoiding wheel bearings and stickers then, in winter cover with ACF50 or Scotoiler 635 spray. In summer I use Mucoff protection spray.

Having had a part-faired SV the situation was somewhat similar. I never really came across anything that helpes and where it gets baked on muc-off wasnt especially effective*. Ive no idea whether my liberal use of WD40 now repalced with the Scottoiler stuff makes subsequent cleaning easier.

*Joker was experimenting with some oven cleaner...

But I havent heard of anything you spray on, get it dirty, then its easier to clean.

Ive wondered if a liberal coating of stuff with teflon in it would help.

Jonboy who comes here sometimes is a keen bike cleaner so he may know of some tricks.

Welcome to 'keep the GS Clean Club'......

I use either Muc-Off or Wurth bike cleaner.......essentially the same bio-degradable cleaner that doesn't harm the bike.......and a cold water pressure wash........

As a deterrent I use the Scottoiler FS365 corrosion inhibitor and a hugger/fender combination from those fine folks @ MC.........;)

Cheers

Dutch

Thanks for the advice guys. Ive just come from a VFR which once the fairing is cleaned looks very clean UNTIL you look under the fairings!

Try Cif Lemon Mousse Bathroom cleaner on a COLD engine..........

Spray on..............leave for 60 seconds, whilst brushing in the fins with a toothbrush/brush and hose off with cold water/pressure washer.

Also works well on dirtbike carbs, like XR's & DRZ's!!

Works a treat............!!!

Blimey, Id never thought of using something like that. What a brill idea, and probably cheaper too.

This thread is starting to look like one from the Harley Davidson website. Just wash the bike with a brush once a week. It's going to rot anyway .... it's made by bmw. Thats why we have two year warranty.
