Okay chaps

After 32 years of pushing my misses about getting on her own bike she's agreed to take her test:clap

Blow me down with a feather, she wouldn't even get on the back of mine until 4 years ago but has now said she will do it

Question is how do I get this done and done quickly; if she thinks about it she won't do it, if she learns over a period of time she won't do it, if she knows how much it will cost she wouldn't do it (I feel the need to fib about that bit:D)

What should it cost and how quickly can it be done from newbie to pass

What bike could she ride once passed (this could benefit me as I would use as well)

Any recommendations on where to go, could do it in following areas - wokingham Berkshire, Preston lancashire or Kendal Cumbria

She has a full car licence and is very confident/good driver

Appreciate any advise from any experts out there:thumb2

Ps. As you would expect there is a price to pay - I've got to start running with her :blast

It's a bit further away... but I can highly recommend the BMW school in Wales. Great instructors, new BMW bikes, all the kit is supplied (everything but the boots), and you get to learn to ride in the Brecon Beacons! Some tremendous riding!!

Yes, get her booked in on a complete course with bike hire. They'll arrange every thing including the test which will be on the last day of the course. Won't be cheap though!!

There's a lot of hoops to jump through nowadays. She'll need to first do her CBT and take a theory test, then she can start training on a big bike (assuming she wants an unrestricted license) followed by Mod1 test (carpark manoeuvres) and only when thats passed, take a Mod2 test (road ride).

Theory test will need to be done before starting the big bike training, some companies can combine CBT on the first day of a DAS (direct access scheme) course. Because you can't take mod2 until you pass mod1 it's harder to predict training progression and therefore book the tests when you sign up for DAS, there's no point booking mod 2 for the last day of training in case you fail mod1 whenever that's taken during the course.

My wife is doing her big bike training in July having already done CBT and passed the theory test, she's doing it over 2 weekends, hopefully with mod 1 soon after the first weekend, followed by mod 2 soon after the second, but those test dates need to be flexible depending on how the training goes.

Hope that helps

After doing mod 1 is there a time restriction that you have to take Mod 2 before X amount of months?

Incorrect, the on road practical training can start even if the theory test has not been done. However the Theory Test needs to be completed in order to book a Mod1 test as the test number has to be quoted at booking time. HTH :thumb

I think you've got 2 years from your date of CBT to pass mod 2 otherwise you'll need to retake the CBT. If you fail mod 1 or mod 2 you can't retake them for a number of days (can't recall exactly how many days for each).

I paid for my son to do the BMW course in Wales. He passed his theory in London and then went from never having sat on a bike to passing his DAS in 7 days. Bloody hard work though and he was totally knackered at the end of it. However worth every penny and I am confident he has been schooled by the best. He then went out and got a new Kawasaki ER6F. Really nice bike actually.

If you go into the waiting room of your local Practical Test Centre you'll find a printed sheet on the notice board showing the lead times for the tests at the centres that offer motorcycle tests. That delay can be a problem - up here sometimes 10 weeks in advance. As has been mentioned - other work needs done before a practical may be booked.

I used these guys ..... http://www.riverviewrt.com/ :aidan

Found them very helpful and certainly they aim to teach you to ride rather than just pass the test(s):D

They alaso have a very high pass rate, so they must be doing things right :rob .
There is some good accommodation nearby if required ( I stayed here http://www.meadowside-castle.co.uk/ );):D

Costs ... Just give them a call, or drop them a line. Also check out the comments page on the web site ... the comments are genuine and not made up. I met some of the bods who posted them, so I know :blast

Fail Mod1 - you have to wait 3 working days before booking another.

Fail Mod2 - you have to wait 10 working days before booking another.

When Mod1 is passed you have until the Theory Test expires to pass a Mod2, if TT expires before passing Mod2 then Mod1 has to be taken again. :thumb

It doesn't have to be expensive: After doing her CBT on a scooter, my daughter bought a YBR125 on here for £750. We went on a few rides to get used to it and checked out some Youtube videos on the test.

She did the theory, part 1 and part 2 in just under 4 weeks and then sold the YBR for £1200. Simples:thumb2

She's restricted to 33bhp for 2 years because of her age but, after that, can ride anything.

BMW Rider Training is now also available in North Hertfordshire. Perfect for all those not wanting to travel all the way to South Wales.

Just to piss on your bonfire..are you sure she really wants to do this? It sounds like you're kinda pushing her into something she's reluctant to do. Not the best recipe for a harmonious relationship :D Would it be best to find a "try a bike" day somewhere first to let her dip her toe in the water first? Just my opinon.:beerjug:

Could you do this if you've never ridden a bike before?.
