My 06 1200GS is booked in for its 36,000 mile service next week and I thought that was a pretty long way for a bike. I'm planning on px'ing her next spring for one of the new ones as she'll have done 50k by then and I figured that is quite far enough for a bike. I've seen some threads today though with bikes on much higher mileages and also didn't realise the warranty could be extended out beyond the third year.

Given she has never ever let me down, has hardly any corrosion and any problems are dealt with by BMW very quickly I might just carry on extending the warranty and riding.

How far has anyone else taken their GS? Are there big bills for things on the horizon as the mileage goes up?

A few of the older models (airheads and 1100s) have racked up hundreds of thousands.

If yours is still going well and reliably, I'd stick with it unless you fancy a change to a different make/model of bike. If you trade yours in for a new 1200GS the dealers may get sniffy about the mileage despite the fact that it's supposed to be a "round the world eight times" kind of bike. You'll lose a load of money to get a new GS for not massive gain - a few more HP, electronic suspension, etc. That was certainly my take on it when I thought about trading my 2005 24,000 earlier this year.

36,771 - My 1200s in for it's 36,000 tomorrow..

See no reason to change, out of warranty for 20 months now.. if owt goes wrong I'll just have to save-up for it..

:D
