There ain`t no Jet thats that fast, unless of course your working at the Skunk Works and know something we don`t

If your gps loose`s a signal temporarily, it will effectively think it has travelled to the next picked up sinal and calculate the speed between the two, which is why you can get such high speeds recorded.

no way... that would be one hell of a temporary loss of connection... I might be misunderstanding it, but surely the unit would have to have moved that distance in the time or something equivelant???

Maybe its not the bikes that are fast it the GPS unit, so the Quest is faster than my old Streetpilot 3

Being the proud owner of a new and shiny 1200GSA I was surprised to read in one of the other forums about someone encountering problems with slight weaving at 140mph with the top box fitted, someone else saying that things were OK up to 135.

This blew me away because I was only expecting something in the order of 120 - 125 out of my GSA when its run in.

Has anyone got experience of maxing out their 1200GSA (on a private road officer ) and what if so what was your terminal velocity?

seriously though top speed and gs dont go together-a quick blast to a 110mph then a struggle up to 135mph if your lucky-my biggest personal downfall of gs (1200)-however everything else is great

Have been up to 195 km/h (121 mph) and it was not confidence inspiring at all. The bike could have gone faster, but the aerodynamic instability was really noticeable above 175 km/h (109 mph).

Clearly the aerodynamics were not designed to cruise all day at much above 100 mph. But up to about 105 - 110 mph, it is just fine.

My 2004 GS12 regularly does (according to my Garmin 2610) 134 MPH with top box. (The speedo shows 139-140)

It has also cruised at 110-115 two up (that's about 180 KG's of weight) for about 100 miles.

2up With panniers and top box, it will not go over 120MPH. On a level straight or downhill.

Given that the GSA has a tweaked GS12 engine, but is also heavier, i would think it should be there or thereabouts.

I did only run it in for 700 miles though, and it does rattle nicely when started, but only burns about 1/2 litre of oil per 6k......

Oh i also have a super dooper big screen from Nippy's which must make it at least 5 mph slower.

Also, If you're bike is unstable or light at 100+ mph, add 1mm to the rebound (turn screw in) and one turn in on the pre-load. That'll sort it.

No panniers if thats what you mean ... luggage was only a tank bag and an small ortlieb bag on the back seat ... cant see how that would negatively affect aerodynamics.

I thought that the 1200GSA put out a few more horses than my 2004 GS12. Did they not change the exhaust valve thingyma-jig in later GS's (2005 onwards)

or is that just the voices inside inside my head again ?
