On a scale of 1 to 10 how good is a Sargent seat compared to stock 1200 GSA.
thinking of making the change but having spent a small fortune on other bike seats I am a bit wary and do not want to waste my hard earnt cash

Anything sensible please !!

Rock hard, but for me perfect. Larger support pan, far more horizontal, and the little bit that kicks up at the back also supports
I got a pair second hand for 200 quid, the rear has a handy storage area which holds my puncture kit and spare bulb

On the 1 - 10 sale I'd say the Sargent seat is at least an 8 or perhaps a 9. That said, I didn't really find the stock seat on my 2015 GSA to be bad at all but the Sargent is undoubtedly good for longer distances. (The pals I usually ride with need coffee or comfort breaks at intervals of no longer than two hours so my rides are rarely longer than that)

If you're lucky, as I was, you may be able to pick up some previously owned seats from the for sale section on this forum at much less than the new price. The benefit of this is that should you be unhappy with the seats you can sell them on for much the same price, whereas if you buy new then you will take a hit when you sell them. If you see an advert move quickly as they don't hang around

I have two Sargent seats one fitted to 1150 gs and the other to my 1200.The 1150 is very comfortable but I find it doesn't improve the 1200.Probably as the ergonomics are rather different. The 1200 you sit in it as apposed to on it.Personally I like to move about on the seat rather than be fixed in one place.I plan to sell the 1200 seat if you're interested..if it fits gsa?

For me the sargent seat is a massive improvement on stock.
Also tried a Touratech Kahedo and found that not much better than stock.
With that said I still start to get impending numb bum at around 2hrs. Longest I've done on the sargent seat is 4hrs but that was with the aid of an airhawk type cushion.

I had exactly the opposite experience. I found the Kahedo/Touratech standard (GS) height seat is much more comfortable that OEM GS or GSA. The "Low" was also pretty good but made the bars feel like ape hangers so that was sold pdq to someone who could use it.

I tried a standard height Sargent but due to it's pan shape could hardly reach the floor and the edge dug into my thigh. OK for taller riders but not for my 5ft 8ins.

I used a Corbin seat on the Diversion 900. It was ridiculously heavy, also dug into my leg but was better than the OEM seat. However pillions found it like sitting on a log so I went back to OEM.

My GSA seat was unbearable beyond an hour. The Sargent seat turned that into 3-4 hours, basically a tank of fuel.

Height of the seat has never been a problem with std height versions, I'm 6'2 and 100 kilos
Plenty of man spread available to reach the pegs so thats ok to.

Best may be to buy a second hand and try it and resell if it does not work out.
Thanks for all your opinions, great to get all this information

That's what I did. :)

Being taller you'll have more options. I really like the Kahedo/Touratech GSA height seat for riding comfort but it's too high for me.

Fab!

Best seat I've ever used! Rode back from Belfast to Tamworth yesterday in one hit only stopping for fuel. Would never have been able to do that on the RT with standard saddle!!

Rock hard and wide, suits some, personally I prefer the cosseting of the Corbin

Someone on this forum suggested trying the standard OEM seat on Hi position at the front and low at the back. This made a huge improvement to me. Saved me a few quid... Worth a try

......thinking of making the change but having spent a small fortune on other bike seats I am a bit wary and do not want to waste my hard earnt cash........

The OEM seat on my 1200GS was totally unsuited for purpose so initially I bought a Touratech Kahedo which was a big improvement over standard but I didn't like being locked in position so I sold it for what I paid for it and bought a used Sargent.

Big improvement in comfort and more wriggle room. I'm keeping it.

Don't buy new...... keep a close watch on the for-sale section here and eBay too. Snap it up knowing that should it not suit then you can always move it on for close to what you paid for it....... It's a 'no-risk' purchase.

50 miles was when numb bum set in on the stock seat of my 12GS. With the Sargent....easily 350 miles. I'd say it was the no.1 best accessory I bought for that bike and am patiently waiting for Sargent to release their seat for my Africa Twin.

Thank you all so much for all your comments and suggestions
I feel confident now to give one a go, I'll keep my eyes open for second hand one, and give it a go

There is no "best" seat................ It all depends on the shape of your arse.

Sargent suit some, Corbins suit others..

I've tried both and i've a Corbin arse.

Eggsacterly :thumb2

Have tried various seats including Sargent and none suited either me or the Mrs. so
been back on standard seats for years and both of us get on well with them and i'm able to
spend hours in the saddle with some but not a lot of discomfort.

The only way you will know is to give them a good try out which is not easy.
I bought a set of Sargents tried them then sold them on. Borrowed others tried them and gave them back.
As well as bum shape/size the suitability depends on the ergonomics of your size and shape relative to the bike i reckon.

Buy used. If you dont like it sell it to someone else to try. Costs are minimal but it can take a while to find what suits you.

I had a Corbin on previous bike. Not impressed too wide. That put Sargent at the back for me. Tried Kahedo and liked it. Tried Sargent when I got chance and didn't like it so stayed with the Kahedo.
