My sources are mainly Norwegian newspapers. Norwegian Seaways announced last autumn that sailings were to start in spring this year (Newcastle-Stavanger-Bergen). These plans were put on hold as they had not been able to raise enough start-up capital – the business has a funding requirement of 7 mill. UKP. The latest rumours over here are that the Scottish authorities will invest on the condition that one of the weekly sailings will use a Scottish harbour. If everything adds up, the new service will commence as early as March next year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

If this starts running I'm definitely going to go over for a wee tour...

Dunno about the economics but now the Esbjerg ferry is commercial only there is no passenger ferry from UK to any Scandinavian country...you think there would be enough demand to run one?

DFDS suposedly closing Harwich to Esbjerg due to "environmental" issues with the ship, too expensive to convert it to the required regulations was what I was told 2 weeks ago, wehn we went to Denmark on it. There were plenty of poeple on it.
