We all must ride with very different styles. The reported problems with the 04/05 1200 Models must be somewhat dependant on use. I've just run in my steed and are just about to depart on a 3k Spain/Portugal blast. My fellow riders are all on 150mph+ sportbikes and allthough I an sure the GS will keep up over distance she (mine,s a Girl) will get a lot of full throttle use at all speeds. Can you guys tell me if any of you really cain your bikes and have had no problems and if any of you more sedate riders have had trouble ?

I will report my trip and anything of interest on my return (or poss on the trip too if my palmtop will let me).

Regards to all JC (table bikers northern)

Ps Superbikes at Oulton Monday

Hi,
My GS will let me cruise for long periods at 180kph, and will have a range of 300kms plus, depnding on wind. So it's a hare & tortoise thing. You will not have to refuel as much as the CBR's etc, but you won't have enough fuel to go to their next stop, so it get's a bit frustrating.....
You won't keep up with the speed-heads but you won't speak to as many policemen either.
Enjoy the ride!!!

I dont think all the early problems were dependent on use. There were some well documented 'teething' problems and from what I can see a few friday afternoon bikes which naturally got a lot of airing on here.

The rest (95%?) were as trouble free as such a complex piece of machinery usually is. Mine is Sept 04 model and the only documented problem I had was the crap fuel pump seal and consequent failure.

With regard to the rest of your points - ride it like you stole it :thumb

Ride your own road, and don't worry about others. I'm sure your Gs is well up to keeping up, other then on motorways etc when top spped can be a factor. However I hope you do all you can to keep away from such roads, and enjoy the riding all the more.

I'm happy to say, I have covered 8000, thrashed miles on my '04 1200gs and it's never missed a beat! In fact, I think it was designed to be ridden hard, because when it's thrashed, it uses no oil, but on the odd occassion I've ridden at a more sedate pace, it has. Weird, but wonderful bike. If you really are that worried, get some european breakdown insurance.

You may not keep up with them but you will probably have more fun overall :thumb

Just take some break down cover and ride how you want and enjoy :clap
