How @**@ing stupid can I be - Diesel

All sounds doable. The fuel lines. Am I right in saying the fuel gets pulled from the top left through the pump, down through the plumbing to the fuel injectors and the remaining unused fuel is fed back to the return on the lower right of the tank? beside the breather hoses? So I should drain it from there right?

I can see a lot pfaffing around in my near future.

Thanks. One last question.

On the left and on the right of the tank there are fuel pipes. Are both of these pipes supplying fuel? Or is the one on the right a return? Sorry to keep asking it is just i like to understand how things work!

I think the left side is the fuel delivery, and the right is the breather/drain pipe.

The breather is a small tube and the other small one is the fuel filler cap water drain - there is also a fuel line. Anyway thanks for the support IAds. I’ll go do battle in the morning

Right, catch you alll later. I’ve a plan - thank you all - I’m heading out to do this now. I’m more excited about finding that errant bolt that’s been rattling at 3.5 rpm since I rebuilt the abs…

The pump is in the left hand side of the tank.
Then through the filter as you have run it I would remove the pump from the filter and drain the filter as It has quite a large volume.
The filter is in the plastic housing the pump is mounted to and non replaceable.
The fuel goes to the pressure regulator ( Mechanical)
The feeds from the regulator go to the 2 injectors and the third to the return, on the GSA this goes to the right side of the tank to operate the transfer pump ( mechanical Jet pump) to transfer fuel to the left side.
On a GS the return goes to the Left side of the tank.
Not a lot of Diesel will be in the regulator and fuel lines but the filer holds quite a bit.

Thanks mistacat. I appreciate you. Running me through the whole circuit. All makes sense.

Couple of photos. Drained everything and flushed the lines. Checked the fuel injectors. Thought they were not working but with plugs cleaned, it fired up.

Going to give it a tune up now and head out for a spin. The left lower coil was not solidly connected to the lower spark plug. That might account for the rattle on the left cylinder but I couldn’t find a bolt. Anyway, just have to button it all back up now and see what happens!
