How long do batteries last?

Mine's OE and is coming up to 6 years old and is now struggling to start the bike sometimes. It's always lived outside and never seen an Optimate or charger so I reckon 6 years is quite reasonable.

From Motorworks I can get an OE battery for about £50 or a Hawker for the best part of £86. Considering that the OE has lasted as long as it has with no attention is there any reason for spending over £30 more on some flash American battery?

Cheers

Dick

proper BMW OEM batteries seem to be top notch & last longer than others IMLE.

dry batteries don't leak acid onto your paintwork when the bike falls over. that seems to be their major advantage over wet cells for me.

as you've discovered the standard batteries do not need molly coddling with optimates etc. as long as the bike is used occasionally.

Don't get the wet type BM battery for £50, go for the gel sealed model = fit and forget.

Les wassel posted up somewhere selling hawker batteries for £60ish.

About £59.00, if you can't collect or they don't post, mail me and I could sort postage out for you, as I only live a few miles away

I take then Andy that you weren't entirely satisfied with it then? :)
