When I expressed surprise once about how long a service was prediced to take I was told a fair chunk is in waiting for the bike to cool down before they can do anything.
I waited and watched mine be serviced - after they'd waited for it to cool down (an hour or so - not sure if that might be overkill) it did then take a good couple of hours of pottering around it - this involved a brake fluid change (with ABS / Servo) so quite a lot of the bike was dismantled. Then it went out for a test run. Overall it took about four hours from ride in to ride out. It was nice to see them taking their time and doing things methodically, but christ it's boring trying to fill four hours looking at newer versions of my own bike and browsing accessories. I spent 20 minutes on the bungees and still had time to go back and look at them again to see if I'd missed any.
I assumed the OP was complaining about having to wait around rather than labour costs. I'd guess most shops have a fixed cost for a standard service regardless of whether they rush or dawdle.
I agree it would be a bit rich to be charged an hour labour for cooling down time, but I don't suppose a shop would do that any more than they'd charge an extra morning of labour because they didn't get to your bike until after lunch.
Dont have the exact figure I paid for my 18000 service but do remember I was booked in for 4 in the afternoon. Of course in Spain they close for siesta and my garage reopened at 4
Did I pay for a cooling off period .
Will have to check my paperwork on this one.
If they work like main dealer car shops in the past there's a 'book time' for most typical proceedures. I guess this would be easy to verify if a few more tossers told us how many hours they were charged so we could compare. Main dealers may be obliged to do a road test too, which is going to add a while longer to the sevice. Clearly the service is spread out over the day so the hours taken are not consecutive. All makes a good case for doing your own servicing once the warrenty is out
Just had my 6k service. Bike went into the workshop @ 0900 and came out @ 1320. Seemed to be worked on throughout. Oil changed to fully synthetic, £59.00+vat for the oil alone!!
