Have a catalythic converter (KAT) equipped R1100GS. How long it will take to destroy KAT with leaded-petrol? Planning to travel in countries where are mostly leaded petrol. Will about 5000 kilometres do OK with leaded? Or should i search for skiping the KAT with new aftermarket exhaust?

I don't know if there's KAT-skip option available for 1100 as there is 1150?

Cheers, Margus :beerjug:

Less than 1 litre of leaded fuel, apparently, will kill the Cat on a car.

I guess it means "stops KAT's chemical reactions". But what i really ment was when membrans get full and KAT exhaust section gets stuck due carbon build-up, thus engine don't work normally anymore? Or there is no serious carbon build-up, just KAT stops working but you can ride (read: with as non-KAT machine)?

To be more direct my question is will i be able to ride with KAT on leaded fuel or not?

Don't know the answer to "how long to kill a kat" question but Remus do a replacement for the 1100 can that also replaces the kat and gives quite a boost to the mid range as an added bonus:D

I know but on a car rather than a bike. Cage ran out of petrol and I wlked to the nearest which had run out of unleaded, the next petrol was about 15 miles and I knew that leaded would be bad so only put in a couple of litre to get me there figuring that it couldn't do much damage and would be diluted once I filled up with unleaded.

It was a bloody expensive lesson cost me 750 quid for a new Kat and the warrenty wouldn't touch it.
