Tourances fitted front and rear to my 1150GS. 3mm tread depth both ends although that's only 2mm to the wear marker on the rear.

Off to Scotland next weekend expecting to do around 1500 miles over a few days.

I'm worried I should change these before I go. The extra weight of luggage and pillion + daily use can shag tyres quickly.

Okay I'm tight and I also worry I might change them too soon. I rang around and I'll pay a premium (£220) to get them changed ride in / ride out at short notice.

Wadya tink?

I have riden in Scotland a number of times :thumb and the roads up there seem a lot more rugged and coarse :nenau . My mate set off with perfectly good tyres last time but by the time we arrived home the back tyre was completly knackered and should have been replaced alot earlier :nono . My advice is, if your not sure change them, better safe than sorry :clap . Worry about the cost when you get back, i do. Hope you have a great trip. Orca. :beerjug:

I think you are concerned about them already

I think you are about to go riding fully loaded with a pillion in Scotland during April (so it's bound to rain) :eek

You don't want it praying on your mind as soon as the going gets a bit tough, and you'd hate yourself if anything ever happened

3mm of tread is not changing them too early, you'll be amazed at the handling improvement as soon as you put new ones on :thumb

Get it done and then have a great holiday, worry free :beerjug:

Well spotted... :) The granite chips used on a lot of our Highland roads make for a very grippy but super abrasive surface. My rear Tourance is looking quite second hand with just over 3K miles on it.

It's not the back of beyond, maybe ask where on your route you may be able to get some new shoes rather than thinking they need doing when they don't :thumb

I just did 800 miles mostly round the West Coat this week and the three mils on my rear Tourance wore down to just over one so tend to agree with the views on wear rate due to the tar and chip roads. If you are venturing near Aberdeen you can have ride in ride out for £102 as I did today at Silletts.

Tyre wear Scotland

For sure the lovely grippy Scottish road surface will wear tyres at an amazing rate. Change 'em and have peace of mind :thumb
