I'm sitting here reading 'MC 2008 guiden' A Danish 'What Bike' type magazine and am astonished at the cost of bikes here- along with everything else.

A new GS Adventure basic price is 264,625 Kr

Or in real money £ 26,400.00:eek::eek::eek::eek:

A feckin Lifan Monkey bike could be snapped up for the price of a standard GS....

I surprised anyone here rides bikes at those prices.

Yep - it is crazy. I have met a few Danish bikers and they get stung so badly on tax. Even if they go and buy a cheap 2nd hand bike in Germany they still have to pay a huge tax to import it to Denmark.

Denmark has the highest rate of personal taxation in Europe (if not the world :nenau) and included that is an extremely high new vehicle tax.

HAving said that it has an unbelievable welfare state, school system and all the other things we tend to complain about and in a survey a couple of years ago the most content population in Europe.

Makes you think doesn't it.....

Weren't the Danes vehemently opposed to EU membership when they put the question to a referendum?

They are heavily taxed but they still complain about the services- especially medical care..

Looking about the towns you can see where a lot of the money has been spent and it's also very obvious that the Danes themselves take good care of their country- no litter and shite dumped everywhere like in the UK.

They are also very patriotic with Danish flags flying from most houses and little Danish flags on sale at the airports for welcoming back family and friends who've been abroad.
Also many of the Danes I work with are very opposed to immigration and of course they voted against the Euro.

It's a nice place to work but I couldn't live here - not many bends in the roads for a start- and a total lack of hills....
