went to my local BMW stealership " hello can I have a set of front brake pads for a GSA 1200 TC on 11 plate please" stealer " certainly sir that's £114.75 inc VAT please" THUD..........." Sir SIR MEDIC !!!!!!

So having done a couple of searches on here for the best non OEM replacement brake pads iam none the wiser since it seems to be down to personal preference some say stepoes ferdo pads some EBC AND SOME STICK WITH THE OEM PADS

Iam not averse to shelling out £114 if I get the longevity and quality after all you get what you pay for allegedly, but it does feel like a kick in the nuts and a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!!!!

Suggestions welcome :nenau

I have used EBC previously on both my GSA 1150s and to fair generally found them ok I think what iam getting my knickers in Twist about is that I just bought the bike in February with a BMW used bike warranty and don't really want to invalidate it by using none approved BMW parts , but I guess the chances of the discs and callipers going Pete tong is pretty remote!!
 
motobins,i just bought full front and rear sets of brembo pads £107 deliverded next day.

Brembo pads are what bmw put on the bike when new but put bmw on them. Or it is on the brembo caliper ones anyway. Difference is going direct you can get different compounds to choose from.

nope,but i do a fair few miles on my bike and i will be fecked if im paying bmw dealer prices,time will tell if its a good move,my 63 plate gsa has done 18000 miles and is not quite ready for the pads yet but i like to be ready.
 
Steptoe has a big trade box of Ferodo pads, not some eBay knock offs, as he gets through plenty during the year. They are very good, and way cheaper than OEM parts.


Keep your OEM pads with the BMW logo embossed into them, they can be refitted if presenting for warranty claims.

Its easy really,

I got 110k on mine and nearly on 3rd set of discs.

If you want longevity and not so much feel or bite get bmw pads they are expensive but last for ever,
more feel and bite go for ferodos from steptoe etc. i use these with his discs and they are great particularly when hot.

I use a lot of rear brake dragging it in corners etc aftermarket can go in as little as 2-3k so i go with the bmw (adventure spec sintered) which are 3 times as much but get 3 times the wear rate.:thumby:
 
I replaced the OEM's on my GSA at 24K - they were only half worn. I replaced them because I had always felt they were a bit lacking, certainly compared to my K1100 which is sporting EBC double H sintered and those brakes are phenomenal. I opted to try a set of the Ferodo platinum pads from Steptoe on the Hexhead and they're fine, not quite as much bite to them as the EBC but certainly good enough for the task - just need a bit more lever pressure. These are wearing out at about twice the rate than the OEM's did but I'm not looking for longevity over braking power. At 36K on them my discs are just about getting to the BMW wear limit so I'm probably OK for another 6K and then I will try the EBC's out.
 
I use Ferodo's pads and discs from Steptoe and they are excellent in all conditions.

I don't know how using another make of pads will affect your warranty.
