How much discount on new bike?

I bought a new 2017 GS TE with black metallic paint and lowered chassis plus Nav V in mid-March. List price for the bike to this spec according to the BMW configurator is £15,555 and I was told the satnav is about £560, so a total of £16115. I made email enquiries stating my requirements to six dealers, and the best offer was £14,999, which was a saving of £1116. I then negotiated a free first service worth roughly £200 so made a total saving of about £1300. I was fairly happy with this, especially as the dealer with the next best quote said they could not match it. It might have helped that it was towards the end of the month and the end of the financial year, assuming the dealerships work to an April 5th year end. So far I'm very happy with the bike, which is my first GS.

PS: That was an on the road price including Road Tax, and there were no delivery or other charges.

When I bought my Sept 2013 GS TE in May 2014 privately, it had 505 miles on the clock, came with the Nav 5 and dealer fitted BMW spotlights. The retail invoice amount from Balderstons was £14785.

I bought what amounted to a new bike for £11900 saving £2885.

I paid £14,040 for a TE in white with the alarm added on retrospectively. Then negotiated a bit off the first service. Not on finance/pcp if it makes any difference?

I was quoted reasonable price for new GSA Triple black a couple of months ago, one was from Marshalls in Grimsby the other was Pidcocks in Nottingham.
Other dealers were a very long way out including some on here advertising deals..
I would try Marshalls on 01472 276666 u never know..

Pulled the pin and ordered from Maidenhead, on the road with all the options and panniers it was £18k, having had a ring round it was about the right price.

What I was promised was any clothing etc would be cost plus 15%, so that's a good deal as the old Rallye Pro 2 suit is in need of retiring when the old 1150 goes!

It's not going far, a friend (who is now on here and selling his Blue/White 2004 to buy it) wants it as I did do a huge amount of work and it ended up a VERY fast 1150. A small tear will be shed and I'm not sure about having the 'everlasting warrenty' when you sell to friends! But I tend to be in the workshop fettling most weekends and there will be F all to do on the new one, any issues will just have a purple faced rage filled customer in the showroom on a saturday afternoon!

Picked up a Rallye with all the options plus engine bars, akra and sat nav for £16k last week.

Although not a GS, I was looking for a new K1600 GTLE with all options on it. Contacted a few dealers by email, only 1 replied. Price I was quoted was only GBP 500 less than RRP from the BMW site. Basically they said they'd throw in the Navigation for free.....
Also got some comment about " I'd better hurry as their quota for these bikes would run out soon". Surprised to hear that there were quotas.....

Final comment was when I asked for a more dramatic discount to start a negotiating point I was advised to "take it if I were you" .

So the point is as in the topic, what is indeed a reasonable discount to expect.

Not many dealers will go out of their way to quote if you just email, rather than visit them, or at least pick up the phone.

CHECK YOUR SMALL PRINT.

I refused to sign a loan recently because they are getting around early repayment by a new clause... Credit Charge.

Basically they get you to sign an agreement whereby you confirm you will pay the FULL credit charge (which amounts to the interest over full period), regardless of early payment or settlement.

They're wise to this now.

Distance selling regulations means you have 14 days cool off to cancel. But not if you sign on premises. So they make you go onsite to sign.

I just paid cash in the end (Credit Card, dealer paid charges, I cleared funds 10 days after). Finance used to be a good option, as I always settled early. But not always a good move now.

Also some personal loan early part/over payments will not amend/lower your monthly payment amount. They are trying to de-incentivise you to repay early, while bending and staying within the Credit Laws.

As for BMW car finance, with BMW Motorcycled finance the only charge for settling within the 14 days is daily interest accrued, which is peanuts. After the 14 days you move onto monthly interest against the outstanding capital. You can pay off in full at any time without penalty. Of course, the earlier you settle the more you will save in interest since, like a mortgage, you are paying monthly interest on the outstanding capital, meaning that as the term progress you are paying less interest, more capital.

Regarding making overpayments, you do have to think about what the offer is in terms of how much the overpayment will go against your loan rather than reduced monthlies, and give it some thought versus hanging on to make an early settlement instead. However, depending where you are in your contract, you can find overpayments contribute significantly towards the capital rather than reduced monthlies.

Whilst some dealers may be inclined to give you a larger discount if you are taking out finance, it ain’t necessarily so. I tend to go down the PCP route for cars since usually there’s usually a finance contribution that you can still pocket when you cancel the PCP within the 14 day cooling off period. You don't usually get that offer with bikes (though of course dealers still have an eye on their commission from the finance).

I got 1.1K off a TE Exclusive – a pretty standard offer – but which was not dependent on taking out finance. For what it’s worth, I also got 7.5%% off accessories (nav vi, leds etc). I’m sure that I could have haggled, but going on what I’ve read it seemed like a fair offer out of the bag (bit less than the 20% I got on my BMW car mind!). Had I wanted to take out finance, the interest rate would have been 7.5%, down from ridiculous interest of 9.9%.
