thinking of giving up biking for awhile due to work commitments coming up.

Just wondered if anyone could tell me rougly what I should ask for my if I sell my GS.

86k 1999 R1150GS, almost full service, last stamped at BMW 76k, tons and tons of receipts.
Taxed and mot'ed, BMW top box and panniers, all standard. in black
Only fault now is the gearbox, crunch when changing down from 6th to 5th unless you firmly use the selector, the rest of the gears are lovely.
engine needs painting

Shoud I get the gearbox replaced before selling or take the hit?

thanks
Garv

You should ask yourself - "Are you going to revisit biking"

If the answer is yes and you are happy with the bike then I would get the gearbox fixed and just put the bike in the garage.:beerjug:

If you 'need' the money then sell it.

I am not an expert on 1150 but some people on here think they are worth a lot more than they are

Just my view

Don't need the money but will need a car for a period about year or so so the money would be spent on a runner.

Over the next year I will have to do a lot of traveling, not the best to turn up to a clients place in full bike gear plus not sure I can fit all the IT kit on the bike :)

I would have thought that with a sound gearbox it would be circa £2500
I had a recon gearbox done on my 1100 just over a year ago and whilst it is out most people would probably do the clutch at the same time unless it is very recent. If done prefessionally this can set you back around £1200 to £1500 at an independant. God knows what it would cost at a dealer. I guess you need a buyer who will take on the work themselves.
Good luck

someone is selling agearbox on her for 250, would be happy to do the work my self, maybe it might be worth getting it done.
to be fair, the gearbox seems to be fine most of the time but if I sold it as is then I would want to tell the new owner of the issue if I didnt replace it. unlike the guy I bought it from :)
