I have the excellent GIVI Aero screen. I put it on pretty much when I bought the bike, so have no comparison except to the standard GSA which I used to have.
The GSA was new and was very quiet. However my 05 GS12 which has nearly 60k up sounds sweet on tickover but when I an riding with my visor up sounds like a bag of spanners.

It is driving me nuts as I am paranoid about rattles :blast

Any of you guys with the GIVI or other high screens have the same problem?

Just fitted a Z technik screen 3 ins higher than a GSA. The wind noise and buffeting has decreased so the engine sounds noisier.

They all do that sir! :rob

If you have less wind noise you hear more engine noise.

Anyone not wearing earplugs when riding a motorbike deserves to go deaf/suffer tinnitus.

noise !

Steve, i've given this some thought, when i bought a 955i Triumph, lovely bike to ride, but oh dear, the engine sounded like a bag of spanners at first! so i started wearing ear plugs for the first time, wow they transform the experience of riding! I put a Givi Aero Screen on my 1200 GS to get rid of the buffeting and the wind noise of the original screen, there was an increase of mechinacal noise at first, but now i don't notice it,i ride with my visor up all day and without ear plugs. Therefore i would recommend 3M earfit comfort foam earplugs, they are washable and fit snugly into the ear.good luck

I agree Chris, but we're old you and me, and it's only when you're old and have already lost a good chunk of your hearing that you learn to value it :blast

Young'uns.....can't be told :rob

I need to say that I have always wore ear plugs. I wear a Shoei Multitec.
Need to revisit the plug effectiveness for sure.

Cheers for the replies chaps

Hi, i had the same thing with my 09 gs, as soon as i put the Givi screen on at 4000mls and cut out all the wind noise i realised just how agricultural an air cooled 1200 gs sounds. I too was a bit paranoid about this at first but you just have to get used to the fact that it is actually normal for it to sound like the big and small ends are knackered and that the conrods are trying to punch there way through the engine case on hard acceleration. Hope this helps!!

Same experience. I did put on the Givi Airflow, and then the engine did sound like the valves were completely loose... I realized that I did hear the injectors. I guess not only less buffeting but also larger area and an other angle might send the noice to my ears...?

I put an airflow on and the protection from the wind was fantastic BUT the increase in other noise from engine and particularly exhaust (mines a 2010 with noisier pipe ) drove me mad enough to take it off again. Now gone back to standard screen which I think is better overall.
You pays your money and then try to convince yourself it was worthwhile !!

Now ain't that the truth! I still like my Givi screen, but mainly because it got rid of the buffetting which the standard screen gave.

Big screen on mine cut down wind noise and buffetting just like I hoped it would, but, depending on the angle I set it to, the transmission varies between almost inaudible and about to die. Some of it will be due to there being less wind noise to compete with but some, I suspect, is noise reflecting of fthe bigger screen.

Just came back from 3 day ride with my wife and I had Touratech screen extender fitted.
Took it of for same above reasons.

Now looking for MRA Screen add on piece for try. Anybody tried it?

You've realised that TT screen extender allows a more real appreciation of the engine noise- decided you don't like it for this reason, removed it and you are now looking to repeat the lesson??!:blast

I guess it spices up the for sale section:confused:

no, it was borrowed ;)

the other thing I didn' like with TT is it's hight which is a problem when going uphill altough I am 190cm.

I have fitted the Givi Airflow on my TB and its brill !-------- no need for plugs and visor up at high speeds if you like !:)
