Hi all,

just bought some new ADV panniers on eBay without locks thinking I had done well on the price. Rang my local BMW dealer (Blue Bell in Crewe) and have been quoted £24+VAT each (need 4) to have new locks coded to match my existing keys….

Does anybody know where I can get this kit any cheaper, or who supplies the locks for BMW?

I can get a set of 4 from Motorworks for about £45 but would end up with two additional sets of keys which is a pain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you have very little choice - either bite the bullet and pay up - or, go half price with a second key.

I am sure that if you get the locks from Motorworks that you could then have the locks bodies alligned to take your ignition key. Any BMW dealewr should be able to do this.

BMW sell a repair kit for the lock cylinder for £14+VAT each, but then want £10+VAT to code the key. They say that they have to do this, hence the £24+VAT per lock.
Has anybody found a dealer that was prepared to sell the kit over the counter and coded the keys/cylinder themselves?

bahnstormer sold me two key kits when i bought a top box. i thought they were readily available

The reason the lock kits cost so much is there are a lot of parts.

1 lock barrel, 1 lock wafer, 4xNo1 wafers 4xNo2 wafers and 4xNo3 wafers plus a load of springs.

Just buy one kit and see how far you get, you could try swapping the existing wafers around in the lock barrels to match your key. You only need one correct lock wafer in the barrel, and the retaining wafer at the end for the lock to function, it just won’t be very secure.

Are you sure you need 4? I have adv cases and they need 3 locks each (2 for the lid, one for the clamp).

kKop,

I’m almost certain that they have two locks per pannier (see here) though I have not yet received the panniers from Germany.
Could somebody confirm this for me please?

6 locks in total, and your dealer is supposed to do it for you. BMW do not like them giving out the lock kits for some strange reason.

Try a few other dealers..... someone wil either code them for free, or give you the kit to do yourself. That way it'll not cost you £48 more than you thought half an hour ago :aidan

Guys, I think I understand where the discrepancy is re the number of locks... :blast
I have an R1150GS ADV and not the R1200GS ADV. The 1200 does have 3 locks per case; and I'm sure that the 1150 has 2 :thumb
