Twelve Grand With everything Panniers + top box then £500 for the Akro  Hate too see it in black+ white ,much better to just give them a GS1150 SE and a Piece of plastic!!

GS's ain't too pretty, John

Fuel consumption is much better than an 1150, last year I toured with (2) efi Varadero's and they put in 4-5 litres less at each fuel stop over the same distance, than my 1150

Bang for bucks, Varadero's are great VFM with better seat comfort and weather protection and a storming motor for £3-4k less than a GS

Suspension upgrade to WP and it'll piss all over a 1150GS

I think you were right up until the point when you said the suspension upgrades will beat the GS. While they'll undoubtably help, I think its the frame, weight and geometry which will win that battle.

I went from an 1150 GS which I loved (and still miss), to a Varadero which ticked all the boxes but had no soul, to a KTM 950 Adv which had a (possessed) soul but didnt tick all the boxes (rider and pillion comfort (and mpg (and dealers))).

Ive talked it through with high command, who can see my point (she's learning..) and Im putting in an order next week for a 12GSA pretty much as you listed.

I dont like paying all that money for it at all, and you can argue the points of all three bikes until the cows come home. I tried the other bikes, but somehow, for me at least, it has to be a GS. I cant explain it or write down why and I dont want to come up with a load of marketing/psychobabble nonsense. You just know when something is right.

If you insist on comparing your obsolete 1150 with a current model Varadero what do you expect:hide
