How much lower is a Factory lowered GS?.. not seat.. actual bike??

Does anyone know.. I'm getting all sorts of figures from 20mm to 40mm...

Seats come into this.. but actualy lets say tank top to tank top.. what sthe differance?

You get horror sories of the lowered ones scraping around bends etc.. but they are still higher than the RT's and they don't scrape.. How can this be?

They do not scrape unless you ride like Barry sheen, I tried one, just for fun, and felt no difference except the feet on the floor where a lot flatter, I would say 2cms but do not know what seat was on it.

From that you can see that:

The standard GS with standard seat has a seat height of 850/870 mm (two figures are quoted because seat can be fitted in low/high position which differ by 20 mm)

The standard GS with low seat has a seat height of 820/840 mm

The low suspension kit bike (called seat height reduction in the bike configurator) has the lowered seat as standard and quotes a seat height of 800/820 mm

Hence the chassis of the factory lowered bike is 20mm lower than the standard bike, as I have said previously, and the low seat is 30 mm lower than standard.

If you don't believe that the lowered bike has a lowered seat as standard then go into the bike configurator and you will find that if you try to add seat height reduction (seat lowered from 850 to 800 mm) then it also adds Dynamic ESA and the low seat option. If you have already selected the low seat then it justs adds Dynamic ESA. Note that seat height reduction requires dynamic ESA because BMW only supply the shorter suspension units in the ESA versions.

If you don't add seat height reduction and only add the low seat option it quotes a height of 820 mm.

But I guess the static sag is also less by 10mm, making only 20mm lower at the seat, on its wheels, unburdened by a rider.

All measurements aside I've been running the lowered GS for 3 years now and weight 100kg(stop sniggering at the back) with now issues re grounding. I have once or twice had the edge of my boots touch down when "making progress" but that's all.

Riding with your balls (of your feet) on the the foot pegs can stop many foot-grounding surprises.

That's interesting as it doesn't correspond to the seat height figures, but I think you must be right that the 30 mm figure is completely unloaded. The 30 mm difference between lowered and unlowered bikes will reduce, presumably to 20 mm, when supporting the weight of the bike, and the difference will reduce further the more load you put onto the bike, until if the suspension were to become fully compressed and bottom out, both bikes would end up at the same minimum ride height.

A mate's wife has a lowered GS. You have to look closely to see the difference, but it does feel different when you sit on it.
