How much mileage did you get out of your Bt-020s?

wear marks on the back tyre are already very close to the edge, certainly as far as I ever got on the Dunlops, which worried me a bit  Perhaps the profile is slightly different?

I swapped between BT020s and Tourances on my 1150 and I agree that the Bridgestones needed slightly more effort to turn initially than the Metzelers. However, I think I preferred the feel of the 020s overall and soon became accustomed to the characteristics of each tyre.

I also noticed that it was much easier to get to the edge of the 020s than than Tourances. I don't think this was because I was reaching more heroic lean angles (although I AM a riding god, obviously), so presume it was because of a different profile between the two tyres.

020s gave me more confidence, not sure why, because I never noticed any real difference in grip. Same with the Dunlop Trailmax I have on the 1200 now. They were both immeasurably better than the Bridgestone Trailwings the bike came with.

Hi Outtomunch

Still, I'm confident that after a few miles to get used to them you will like the 020's (but dodgy on wet grass and mud though  )

I'm sure you are right, am looking forward to getting some miles on them :)

Advice needed - Fitting Your Own Tyres

What do you guys who fit your own tyres do about wheel balancing

I've never had any problems with the D607's - Just gone through 11,100 miles and have just fitted third rear and second front

Toyed with the idea of changing to BT020's but figured that any negative difference to the D607's and I'd spend the next 5,000(ish) miles regretting the decision

BTW £183 fitted and balanced at Wheelhouse Tyres Coleshill (Just North/East of Birmingham) - Top blokes who even knew the correct torque settings

Anyway, I'm off on a 6,000 mile trip in four weeks time so that'll give me a chance to get used to them plus I'll be able to report back on wear rates :D

As promised, here's what I think (FWIW)

The tyres have now been on the bike for 6000 miles. 90% of that was carried out at nigh on three figure speeds with the bike fully loaded (solo) on a trip to turkey.

The rear is very nicely squared off but still very legal and the front has loads to go :thumb The handling is suffering due to the rear but I'll be keeping it on for now as I've a 1000 mile trip into france in a couple of weeks time (similar 'heads down' on M-Way and don't won't to square off another tyre so will replace it when I get back).

Must say, after the initial concerns, I am very impressed with the tyre. The biggest improvement has been in high speed stability. Where the 607's would start to squirm ( a little bit) at three figure sweepers the 020's are rock solid, my bottle runs out first :o

Every day riding I think I there is not a lot in it, the 607's seem to give slightly better steering response and the 020's slightly better grip and feedback.

On balance I'm gonna stick to 020's but there's not a lot in it :thumb

Just changed mine last weekend as the back one was down to the limit after 5,800 miles. Front would have been good for another 2,000 at a guess but I'm a lazy s*d and one trip to the tyre shop is enough so I had them both done at the same time. Last weekend's sunshine scrubbed the new ones in immediately and for road use I wouldn't have anything else - wonderfully secure feeling when cornering.

I haven't tried them on the GS, but some of the folks on advrider are.

The Michelein Pilot Roads gave me about 1000 miles more on my fazer that I traded in for the GS. I thought they handled better, wet and dry, on the fazer than the BT-020's did.

Just a thought.

I've still got original tourances on the R1200GS. 3200 miles so far and looking pretty good.
Agreed the pilot road are very good, as good as the dunlop 607 but seem to last longer.

I needed a new rear BT 020 (5k) & having seen the recommendation tried MTS, Nottingham. Very pleased; good price & prompt service. I will certainly be going back when I need another tyre.

I managed to get 4500 miles out of my Dunlop 607 rear. The front one, with the same mileage,is as new.I will stick with Dunlops until the pair require renewing.

Andres, if you want tyres in Nott'm I can recommend Tim at M.T.S (Motorcycle Tyre Services) I've had my last three sets of tyres off of him. He's a biker, races his own bikes. His workshop is the cleanest, tidiest tyre-fitting place I've ever seen. I've just paid £107 for a rear 020, he does free fitting and balancing to loose wheels.

Just another plug for this guy, just got a price of £86 fitted for a rear Avon Distanzia, which in my opinion are a better tyre than the Tourance :thumb2

Had 020´s fitted to my first 12GS since new: got about 4500 from the rear and up to 9000 from the front. My new 12GS (Black :thumb2 ) has Bridgestone Battlewings fitted, they seem OK in the dry and got me safely up the Stelvio yesterday (running it in in the Alps :D ) but don´t have enough experience with them yet in the wet to make a judgement; although I believe thy are better than the old Trailwings. Any comments?

my bike is a 1200gs 54 (sept 04) and i am the only owner from new and i have now covered just under 14,800 miles on the original tyres which are tourances which i dont think is that bad mileage wise after reading some of the posts from here
